Challenge: Unanswered Questions (Classic Editing)
Camera: Nikon Coolpix 995
Location: Libby, Montana
Date: Jul 4, 2003
Aperture: f5.9
ISO: 200
Shutter: 1/264.9
Galleries: Action, Photojournalism
Date Uploaded: Jul 5, 2003

This challenge necessitated a 2-hour drive to Libby, Montana to take this shot. Somewhat overcast day, set camera settings to -.3 exposure and used soft-focus filter to hopefully try and make this look as surreal as it really appears. This is actually on the side of the Libby High School - I think maybe an art class (or auto body) project. :) Tweaked levels in photoshop at home and used unsharp mask.

Even now that I know, I can't see them - I'm not sure what I'd look for as my cue, all I see is a lot of black, gone a bit fuzzy at the edges.

I was surprised at how many people thought this was edited... I had to check my e-mail every day, waiting for the admins to ask me for the original so I didn't get disqualified. It never occurred to me that people wouldn't look close enough to see the bricks painted black. :) Glad to hear that I really did leave some "unanswered questions"!

*laughs* Ouch. Now I wish I'd voted this higher. I swear, it looked edited to me - and it's not. Nice work.

Good question! And your composition works to invite thought beyond the space, and sets this scene in a larger world. 9

Wickedly cool! I'm guessing some designer went a little crazy for this as the "hole" is really black bricks. (Maybe too much detail to pass off that part of the illusion) Very cool shot! Challenge well met. Score upgrade from 9 to 10. Rob the Swash

Nice capture. The angel of the shadow works very well.

Very amusing concept - it would definitely raise some questions. Unfortunately, the editing - the blur on the bricks above / around the car mostly - is very distracting. It's also hard to accept that it didn't warp the wall more than that, and where did the knocked-out bricks go, anyway? The shadow looks startlingly real, however....

is this real, or some sort of movie set?

my only problem with this is the title. why did you choose to give the whole picture away. i would have titled it something like wallcar or something that would make people make up a question of their own for the picture. as it is now, things are too obvious and take away from the impact of the photo

It's obvious that the brickwork behind the car is painted to give the appearance that the car has crashed throught the wall. I would like to know why it is there. What is the reason for the front end of a car to be stuck to a wall and made to appear that it crashed through. I rate this a very high on the interesting scale.

One of the more interesting "unanswered questions" in the challenge. The strong horizontal line created by the ground at the bottom of the frame seems to pull away from the subject.

This certainly does raise a question.
