My mother-in-law was pondering the remote trying to start the movie, "The Aviator," on DVD. She was aware that I was fooling around with my camera but was unaware it was focused on her. She is always worring about someone or something. The lines of her face show it. And that was what I tried to capture. She looked as if she might be pondering the mysteries of life. . .

Nice shot I liked this a lot, the character in her face was very appealing.

I love this shot. I think it is a beatiful, poignant picture. And she reminds me, a bit of my mom...same generation I suppose. I love the DOF and the soft quality of the shot

Despite its placing this remains a wonderful study of the old generation coming to grips with the high tech era.

Very nice candid. Well composed, lighting is very good. Something about her top (her left) hand looks funny, like you did a selection to apply a slight blur to the background (sofa) and bleed over into her hand a little? The focus on the visible portion of her leg is fine and is actually beyond (distance) her hand...so DOF should include all of the hand? Nitpicking I know. Overall I really like the "feel" of this shot, it's warm and very real. Congrats - should finish high with this one (top 5 maybe?).

Made me giggle. so very very true. Great capture, well cropped and I feel there's even more there by playing with Contrast and Saturation

Classic Image. The composition and subject are awesome. The lighting is also terrific. The cushion in the background is rather distracting, especially the corner that's opposite her wrist. All in all a great image though.

Technically, this is sorta "snapshot"ish with the highlight on the pillows which distracts us. I do love the expression and we all know we'll be there one day. 6

I like this shot. A good composition. I like how the woman is cropped along the edge. Focus and color management look pretty good. Some might say that the background is bordering on being busy, but I think it adds context to the image, and the dof helps and keeps the subject isolated. I can definitely relate, I've seem my own mom struggling with 'current' technology all the time :-) Nice job.

I love this! I hope that everyone gets this photo. My grandmother, when she was alive, had the hardest time with any new technical device. The VCR, microwave....well, just anything that had buttons. No matter how many times you explained it, she would just not get it. She would just say, "remotes are for the lazy people, if I want to turn the channel I will get up and do it myself!"

hahah. nice. this lady looks more grandmotherly than motherly - though of course one is a mother first - doesn't bother me, but you might lose points from the hardcore DNMC crew..

you did a great job of capturing one of those universal experiences that we all have :)
(as opposed to those universal experiences that not all of us have... umm....)

Thats just lovely.....strong score, for this entry's emotional content, although it's technically very good too.

I LOVE this picture! This is my type of photography. This really captures the essence of getting old and helping an elderly mother. The natural lighting is great, exposure is great, crop/framing is great, and the focus is dead on! Great job! I hope this one does well. This one struck a cord with me. <10>

Well, just my thoughts, but the remote takes away from the image. Cropping the image above the remote hand would have made a better impact, IMO.
