| I love this photo and it makes me desperate to run into my garage studio and make the same photo with my child. I hope that borrowing your idea will be taken as a form of flattery.. I'm touched by this. It's a superb image !!!! |

This really probably should have ribboned. It has a much stronger emotional connection than the 3rd place, IMO.. and is technically stronger than the blue ribbon.. again, IMO.
Congrats on the top 10 though, and you have a timeless image for the rest of your days. |

Greetings from the Critique Club!
What and amazing and imaginative photo. The image shows the epitome of caring and love...you have captured the feelings well in this one.
First off, what I don't like about the picture; Really...the only thing I can see that I would like different is the tight crop on the right side. It feels a little cramped around the baby. Other than that...my only other complaint is that the lighting is just a tad harsh on the mother and the back of the baby, but that is only a minor element in my opinion and doesn't pose any real problems to the quality of the image. Also...the mother's pinky finger on her right hand looks a little wierd...but once again, that is just being nit-picky.
Now...what I like about the image; For me...my favorite part is the color. I really really like how the red is repeated throughout the photo. From the fabric, to the mothers cheeks, to the baby's face...it's all there. The focus is great, and it has just the right amount of "softness" to it to give it that romantic and sensible feel. The composition is wonderful. The lighting is very well done. There's so much to like here and the score you recieved, as well as all the comments, reflect that.
Overall...a very personal and raw capture of what being a mother is like. Keep up the good work..and Good Luck!

| There's a lot to like here, and one very big not-to-like: the way here head bleeds into the BG keeps me from ranking this as high as I might otherwise, though I stills core it well. Rim-light on the baby is wonderful. |

| I love the color, the lighting, and that it was taken against a black background, allowing for no distractions. I love that the baby is looking full on at the camera, but would have much preferred to see some interaction between mother and baby - that would have made for a much more compelling image for me. |

| Nice pose and composition. I wish the lighting was a bit kinder to mom though. I'd like to see lighting that would soften the ueven skin tone created by tan lines and freckles. |
