A very HUGE grasshopper. He was put in the fridge in a jar to calm down (chill out) enough that I could get a photo. He was super active in the jar and to be honest...I was scared to death of him.

I can actually see the condensation on this poor bugger. Congratulations on a heck of a shot.

HAHAHA! You had to fridge him! That's classic.
No worries, I'd be scared of him too.
BTW, you own the camera I have my eye on.

These, or similar ones, are conquering Eastern Utah right now as we speak. Nice intricate details captured. DOF is wonderful and contrasts the insect very nicely.

Holy wow. Great detail. I have never seen this sort of grasshopper before. He looks really nice against the green background. I'd give you a 10 if I could vote. But I can't =\ Good Luck! =)

Oh my goodness! That's scary! The colours of the bug are captured so vividly and the vivid green of the background works well with that. I like the placement of the stem very much - on a slight angle and to the side. I find the crop just a wee bit too tight at the bottom edge - I think there needs to be more room between bottom tip of bug and edge of frame.

My goodness, look at those eyes!! What great clarity and color . He is scary! How in the world did you get so close to it? You can even see drops of water on himl Did you spray him -hahah. If not the winner, close to it.

Great photo! The colors are incredible without being the least overdone and I'm amazed that all the important elements are in such sharp focus.

The detail you've captured in this macro is excellent - but what really helps make this photo stand out, is the way you've captured the bug at such an angle that the yellow stripe down the bugs back really helps lift it out from the background and give it a sense of 3-dimensionality. Great shot - one of my favourites for this challenge

Excellent shot and very finely captured detail. A larger DOF would have got all the bug in focus and would have improved it IMO.

wow, what an ugly guy! great photo and i love the background, the one thing that would've made it even better would've been if there hadn't been the glare off his legs...7

Challenge met. What a wonderful capture of a bug. I'd be proud to have taken this shot. Lovely colors, crystal-clear focus and sharpness, and he almost seems to look at me. The background is nicely green and OOF without any distractions. The lower end of the bug is a tad OOF but really not noticable much since you have focus and attention-grabbing detail where it matters. My top 5 this week :)

It is so ugly but yet so pretty...wait did I just say that??? Excellent shot!!!!! Vote 10
06/30/2003 02:33:22 PM
Great colors and focus, but I don't think I like the strong vertical framing. Maybe if it was more on a diagonal.
06/30/2003 02:20:03 PM
Nice crisp shot and pretty locust too. [6]

Very nice macro indeed. Great subject, good sharpness and lighting. Composition could be slightly more interesting, but this is good.
