Photo #28 out of 32 on this theme. I turned the brightness way down and cranked the contrast way up. Then, I resized and sharpened.

Huge thanks are due to my roommate, who held up one heavy end of the hammock so I could catch the shadow without the frame in the way. Once the pain in her arms subsides, she will probably use her new-found strength to kill me. ;-)

Thanks, everyone. I actually expected this photo to get creamed because of how much I pushed the brightness and contrast, but I was so in love with the result when it was done, that I submitted it anyway. Good thing I did. ;-)

gorgeous color and sharpness! I'm impressed.

Very good colors and I like the way you framed/cropped it a lot. I think the big pillow is dominating the photo too much though and I wonder how the photo would look wthout it or with a smaller pillow. Nevertheless an excelent photo.

Very relaxing shot, good time of day to take it too. Good shot Score 6 -------- Corey

Interesting coloring ... nice crossing lines with the hammock and the deck.
06/21/2002 04:16:00 PM
ooh. nice yellow tone. Makes me want to nap.

Great contrast

what was your objective with the coloring? while I like the high contrast, saturated-y look...it doesn't seem to quite fit. i'd associate a summer afternoon snooze much more with soft, directional, warm lighting than this sort of harsh look.

I would have liked it better without the pillow, but good work.

Neet shadow pattern, the book is a nice touch. The wood texture in the floot is great but too washed out in the upper right in my oppinion.

Your photo is playing with almost all of my favorite characteristics of photography :) I love diagonals ( I wish these were a little stronger) and i love sharp conrasts as well. The golden lighting in this photo is really nice and the shadow of the book on this hammock really adds a very thoughtful touch to the work... Great shot = 10 :) - jmsetzler

Odd colors. Just odd; not bad.

very nice!

Outtanding use of color and shadow. Framing of subjects are excellent and overall concept is well thought out. Depth of field is well maintained to add to dramatic effect of photo.

BRILLIANT! I love the yellow "filter," too.

I love the yellow color tones here, it almost looks like a sunset right on your porch. Awesome - 9

Great shot, framing is perfect and the lighting is very cool. Well done.

After viewing this one I just wanted to leave work and go find that hammock! I like the pattern and love the warmth of the hue and brightness. Good job.
06/18/2002 02:32:00 AM
wonderful lighting.... great job

The golden colour looks almost artificial (is it?). The grain in the timber makes the photo for me, as well as the strong contrast of the shadow.
06/17/2002 09:45:00 PM
Excellent composition, lighting, color....I like the photo very much!
06/17/2002 09:25:00 PM
I like the pattern

Brilliant colors, and nice use of the angled/crossing lines. Nice shot.
06/17/2002 08:45:00 PM
Nice photo. One of the better ones of its type. Looks like you just sealed the deck.

Great Contrast and Colors. Make me want to go to a sunny beach
06/17/2002 06:40:00 PM
Great shot. I love the complimentary color with a distinct shadow. Top 3.

excellent yellow lighting effect really brings out the detail in the wood grain. nicely done

Really nice work! You win! I really like the yellow overcast, very warm feeling. The book in the hammack is a wonderful touch!

Love this! Inspired idea.

Ok, here's my prediction: This is going to be this week's winner. Darn. I thought my entry was good! I love hammocks, the yellow late afternoon light on the wood is wonderful. The shadowd definitely the focus of the photo (and there are not many entries this week that I can say that about). I just love everything about this photo! My only little (inconsequential) nitpick is that the gaps between the woodplanks are not lined up with the edges of the photo.
06/17/2002 01:48:00 PM
i wish i knew what you obviously know about lighting. Extraordinary
06/17/2002 01:06:00 PM
Great contrast! You managed to make a hammack look interesting! Nice job!
06/17/2002 11:29:00 AM
Very well done! The brilliant color of the wood and the sharpness of the shadow are great.
06/17/2002 11:17:00 AM
too yellow, but I love everything else.
06/17/2002 11:17:00 AM
beautiful color and contrast choice
06/17/2002 08:09:00 AM
I love the shadow effects, book, pillow and mesh. The top right is over exposed just a bit but it's still really nice !
06/17/2002 01:42:00 AM
nice...
