Very emotive shot. The colors, the stark contrast, the grain. All of this adds up to a shot that is not "easy" or "fun" emotionally, but one that is almost haunting. The only suggestion I would make would be to have the horizon a bit higher in the background. It isn't on the 1/2 line, but it is closer to that than the 1/3, I think, and that gives it a slightly unbalanced feeling (to me), and almost seems to be cutting the gril in half.

(I do this when I personally like a shot, and can't find anything that I would change, but obviously does not meet the criteria for a ribbon from the voters.)

I suspect the girls lack of focus (on the hands) made this seem a bit out of focus. Also, to get the high contrast, some of the lighter areas are almost blown out.

This is obviously not a shot that most people would hang on the living room wall, but I do think it is one that would go well in a fine art portfolio.

Nice shot, and best wishes to you in future challenges.

You know, I don't even know why I bother coming back to this site anymore. For the life of me I can not comprehend the way people vote on this website. Yet, when someone comes up with a certain trendy style they are ribbon winners every week! Whatever. This is a great image and was severly underapprecaited.

By the way, I love that you and your daughter share a common interest in photography. That must be wonderful.

This is so interesting. It makes me want to keep looking at it, and the more I look at it, the more I am drawn into it and like it.

Fascinating picture. If the sunet/rise is in the far background, how did you light the picture from right to left? Excellent result!

I really liked this photograph. The grain doesn't seemed forced-in to comply with the challenge, it looks as though it belongs. The horizon line splits the image straight down the middle and yet the two opposing focal points placed close to the edge create a very interesting dynamic that keeps the eye moving.

This doesn't work for me. The rocks are too harsh, and the branch looks more like a snake than an angel.

Great tones in this photo. I would of preferred a little crisper photo to compliment those great tones. Oh yeah, great composition too.

I love the lighting, the tones, the sense of movement, and the composition.... oh, and the grain! You've captured a great mood here. This really tells a story. One of my favs of the challenge. 10

Love the idea of this, but the hot spots really distract.

This is very good. The highlights really accentuate this shot.
