My idea for personification that I didn’t enter:( I need more knowledge about lighting to make this good. Any advice on how this should have been shot or lit would be wonderful:)

I'm certainly no expert on anything - especially lighting - but it looks to me like the fact that it's direct light hurts this image. The fact that it's slightly oof doesn't help either, but the glare from the light is most distracting IMHO. It is bouncing off the scissors in a number of places and the floor. I would suggest a much softer direct light source and perhaps an indirect one (perhaps bounced off the ceiling with a white board). Again, I'm REALLY not very experienced with studio lighting, but that's where I would start. It's a cool concept and I like the composition. I like where you were going with the image.
