Now, why would that be sitting there in the middle of nowhere like that? Anyway, I like the picture a lot. It has a nice "out of place" feel to it.

Cool old brick oven. I haven't seen one of these since my honeymoon. Nice cloud formations. THis looks like an excellent place to capture them.

straighten the horizon, the chimney tilts left also.

a bit dark, but I like the golden light on the structure, its very nicely done, and I like the composition with the clouds in the back.

G'day!! This is great. Very pretty scene, lovely sky, absolutely beautiful. What is that thing? I love Australia! I spent 6 months there on exchange my Junior year in highschool, it rocked! I think moving a little bit, and putting the main part not so in the middle might have helped but it's not imperitive. I really like this shot, so I've decided to award it my third -10- of the challenge! Congrats and good luck!

Oooooh, I want to go!! I love the tire tracks/ plow lines around this oven. Incredible sky, too.

A great photo. It seems a little dark in places, but other than that, it's well composed and the cloud texture is goregous.

I think this would look MUCH better as a B&W or duotone shot.

I do like this shot :) Not just because i am an Aussie, but the tones are great, the bricks of the old chimney have a rustic charm about them and overall the whole image just cries out Rural Australia!
Well Done

This is just a flat-out cool picture. I dig it hard-core. This would be a "good" picture that anyone could take if they were there with a camera. But, because of your cropping, it is a "great" picture. Very very nice. I wish it was a LITTLE bit brighter though.
06/13/2003 02:28:01 AM
Nice image, but the horizon is slightly off axis.

Oh wow! This intrigues me. Is this the only thing left standing of a house? I think you chose the perfect day to photograph this chimney. The clouds add so much!

This is cool. Not sure what it is, but it looks old and lonely. I like the moody lighting and the sky. Great job.

Well balanced and layed out, good rule of thirds ... beautiful country.

The sky and lighting of this early/late day shot is evocative and even eerie, but the forground is too dark to complete my appreciation of this very interesting image. With such a prominent subject (the fireplace) I feel that it's not about rural Austrailia, but rather about the lack of a house attatched to that fireplace, and what that represents. IMHO, I think this shot would fit more a surrealistic challenge. 7 because I really do like this shot despite it's technical flaw.

Now this is a dramatic shot, very nice...the clouds are magnificent...nice composition, too, good job!

i like the overall feel of this photo. The clouds and the horizon provides a lonely look to the main subject. The abandoned chimney gives an "easter island" look. 8

I just love the ominous clouds and the desolate landscape. I do see this as a good cover for your magazine. There seems to be a lot of room for the title, side pictures & captions that are on news stand magazines. So far, this is the best layout in the group that I've seen so far. It could go up as is. Good job! 10

This is an excellent subject! Just beautiful. I would suggest rotating the picture clockwise and recrop so that the horizon is level.

Holy cow. What an incredible place. You could really have a lot of fun with this setting for all kinds of photographic potentials... As far as the challenge goes, I think you've done very well. Interesting subject matter, great clouds, great composition. Maybe a bit on the yellow side, but overall I like this very much!
