Challenge: Wide Angle (Advanced Editing IV)
Camera: Canon EOS-1D Mark II
Location: Nacka Strand (Stockholm) Sweden
Date: Oct 13, 2005
Aperture: f/20
ISO: 100
Shutter: 8s
Galleries: Abstract, Architecture
Date Uploaded: Oct 14, 2005

Looking up the stairwell of an office building. I have not cropped this photo, changes are only a lot of the usual; levels, color, contrast, sharpening etc. I have dodged and burned a little here and there, and cloned out some spots and other defects in the ceiling. The distortion of the stairwell and ceiling comes from the wide angle and the camera position close to the near railings. Lens used was Sigma 12-24 @ 12mm.

For "Wide Angle" challenge, Oct 10-16, 2005

This picture show that you have a good 'eye' for the pictures! Beautifully taken. I hope you submit more!

Thanks eveyone for voting and commenting! I'm very happy with the 10th place for my first entry, the winners are great pictures that well deserve their places. It's really difficult in my opinion to compare such different pictures and choose one or the other, every picture entered has something unique. My main reason for taking part is really mostly to get new impulses and a reason to get off the couch, if I some day can earn a ribbon that'll just be icing on the cake. Hunting for subjects for challenges is much more fun than TV re-runs. :-)

I had this marked down as a blue ribbon. Terrific shape and the 'iris' really pulls the viewer in. Deserved that blue in my opinion.

I really though it would be on the front page at least! But like you said, lots of very good shots in this challenge! I really like yours because it's different and very clever, it really looks like an eye!

I have to admit I was getting my hopes up just a little bit when I compared to the scores in some of the previous challenges. This one contained some very fine pictures though, so congrats to the winners, well deserved!

If you mean the blown out white circle, there's a ceiling window at the top over the stairwell and the difference in exposure was just too much.

I'll upload one or two others with different perspectives.

Yes, there are several possibilities and I will upload a few others for comparison. You get very different looks depending on where you position the camera.

Yes, but it is the only position under the stairs where you get the illusion of an eye.

very interesting shot. love the pun title. ^_^! the curves in this are very awesome. i don't love the gray bottom left of the picture very much though. maybe a few adjustments in that area could've been done to make this picture even better. great job!

A very good photo in its own right, but the title makes it great. Nice play on words. ;-)

Wow, very very abstract. It's amazing that thi is an architectural shot. It truly looks like an eye, including some pretty sharp lashes... The blue is a nice touch. I would have toned the colours toward warmer yellow though to compliment the blue point. Still love it.

in awe... This is a fantastic perspective of a staircase. I have never interpreted them in this way before. Grrreat! The railing serves as a wonderful leading line towards the "pupil"!

Wow. I tlove the way it's set up, the composition and everything. It looks like the placement shoul dbe different at first, but when you try and see how else it could have been done, it just doesn't work as well. Great shot.

Shooting straight into that small cylinder of bright light is tricky. The resulting flare seems to have tinted some of the neutrals.

This is really cool... and I think it really looks like an eye!! I'd be interested to see how the wide angle effected this shot's outcome. Cool lighting and the blown out "pupil" is great. Good luck!!

This is outstanding. Love the blue of the "iris." The coil of the staircase is mesmerizing. Great shot. I love the blue and brown/gold contrast too. GOOD ONE!
