this shot should have done much better.

thanks for all the comments. a few remarks for those of you that asked:

i did this by leaning out the passenger side window of the car with a short tripod. i put the tripod up against the side of the car and snapped some shots. i tried a lot of different angles, and was torn when submitting on which type of angle to go with. some showed a lot more of the road, which i was suspicious might do better in an "on the road" challenge than one without any real road at all. i ended up submitting this one as i really liked the effect that was going on and it was definitely the most "arty" shot of the bunch. i was happy with the shoot as a whole.

the reason the right side is blown out is probably pretty obvious. it was a bright day and i was using a 1 or 2 second exposure to capture the blur. this, coupled with the fact that it's a dark green car (my girlfriend's mitsubishi eclipse, btw) made the photo hard to expose properly in all places. in the end, i liked the effect it gave, especially where it blends into the car on the top portion of the fender area.

if i was really serious about making this photo look its best, and i had had more time, i would have had the car washed and waxed to get rid of some of the dust and pollen that you can see in certain areas of the photo. i think that was the only thing that i didn't really like about this shot.

anyway, thanks again.

Awesome shot, The motionblur matched with the crispness of the fender is awesome.

The curvy reflections, the composition, and the motion blur all work together beautifully.

Look of speed, color and placement of wheel on vehicle were well done. A bit too much white area to front of vehicle. Distracts a bit from overall impact. Otherwise excellent.
06/15/2002 09:40:00 PM
Fantastic! So kinetic.
06/15/2002 02:06:00 PM
A bit corporate
06/14/2002 05:18:00 PM
Definitely gives a feeling of speed, well done. Like the reflections on the car. Unfortunately, the right hand side is too blown out.
06/14/2002 01:34:00 PM
I love the angle of this shot, and the blur in the background. I sm wondering how you did this.
06/13/2002 07:13:00 PM
This is just a cool picture. It brought me back and that is what it is all about. Good job.
06/13/2002 06:07:00 PM

nice shot. unique vantage point works well.
06/13/2002 12:18:00 AM
A touch over-exposed, but otherwise beautiful! Great sense of motion and form. Very well done, and one of my top scorers!
06/13/2002 12:15:00 AM
that's incredible! my favourite so far!
06/12/2002 08:37:00 PM
I love the capture and the blurring in this one.
06/12/2002 08:34:00 PM
cool. i can't decided if i would have done a tighter crop on the right or not--but nicely done photo!
06/12/2002 08:43:00 AM
Great use of motion blur. I want to know how you accomplished the angle since this is clearly a moving car.
06/12/2002 02:48:00 AM
I can't get this shot myself (I'm driving). I wonder what the driver of that car ahead of you was thinking.
06/12/2002 12:25:00 AM
Pure fluid motion. I really wish you could have found a way to balance the dark reflection of the car with the street and buildings that are so completely blown out. (I'm guessing you had to play around a little to get the car to show up properly.) Nevertheless, I love the way this looks like liquid mercury.
06/11/2002 10:05:00 PM
I think this one turned out really cool! Love the motion. Nice idea!
06/11/2002 09:46:00 PM
Bad focus subject up too close
06/11/2002 08:58:00 PM

Wow! I like it, great sense of motion.
06/11/2002 10:03:00 AM
creativety 8 interesting 5 focus 7 framing 7 = 7 This must have been a hard. Were you on a motorcycle to take it? Pretty dangerous. :)
06/11/2002 01:18:00 AM
You can sell it to BMW!
By the way, I am curious to know how did you take this photo?
06/10/2002 11:41:00 PM
Speed. Focus. Lines. Direction. What doesn't this photo have. Top five.
06/10/2002 11:15:00 PM
I am quite impressed with this photograph... I tried something similar and if u ask me about it after the challenge, i'll tell you :) You have done a great job of showing motion and a sense of 'hurry hurry' in this image... I know that it must have been difficult to get this shot just right... excellent shot!
06/10/2002 09:43:00 PM
How far out the window were you hanging? Good shot.
06/10/2002 07:53:00 PM
I don't think thats covered with your camera warrenty. Hehe...
06/10/2002 05:39:00 PM
Nice, very smooth.....love it.
06/10/2002 04:05:00 PM
I love the speed and the saturation of color in this. By the way.. where were you when you shot this?
06/10/2002 03:23:00 PM
Good design. I like the placement and forms.
06/10/2002 02:43:00 PM
Is that a montero?
06/10/2002 02:43:00 PM
nice action
06/10/2002 01:06:00 PM
Looks fast. I like the shape of the fender and the panning. I don't care for the overexposure though on the right.
06/10/2002 12:37:00 PM
Nicely done!!!!
06/10/2002 12:24:00 AM
Wow! I've always wanted to get this type of shot, but I'm too afraid to risk my camera like that.
