Challenge: Greeting Cards (Advanced Editing IV)
Collection: Miscellaneous
Camera: Gateway DC-T50
Location: Studio/Office, Buchanan, VA
Date: Sep 24, 2005
Aperture: 1:3.5
ISO: 200
Shutter: 1/6 sec
Galleries: Family, Emotive
Date Uploaded: Sep 25, 2005

I have always disliked photographs of literal representations, yet I felt strangely compelled to enter one for this particular challenge.

Given that the challenge description limits the image to target a particular category of blank greeting card, I thought that it would be possible and appropriate to include some possible textual reference within the image itself. A number of possibilities came to mind (and I'm afraid that it will be entered by a great number of other people), but I finally decided on this one.

PP included:
crop
sepia filter
sharpen
Neat Image
blend/clone brush for blemishes
save for Web

I'm sure that this probably won't score well, but I'm actually surprised at how pleased I am with the final result. This is not AT ALL what I envisioned my entry would be, yet I can see this as a Hallmark card on a shelf somewhere. :-) [I'm kicking myself right now...]

I like the concept, but find the shadows a little too harsh. The hand looks a little "plasticy". Maybe just a hair too much NI.

Definitely not a card I would buy. it looks as though you would have been better writing a letter.

Oh good, a card I can just sign my name to. Very helpful for those last minute card buying trips.

I suppose it saves you writing anything on the inside......I'd buy it.

This is a really nice shot, but it seems like something is lacking. Something to give it a little more pizzazz or something. I'm not sure what it would take. Nice idea and execution also. The hand is a little dark for my taste, and the paper could be a brighter white.

Nice idea. Just a little sober for an anniversary and it's a bit of a strain to read the words.

Good photo, it just needed a bit of lighting on this side of the hand to avoid the shadow.

I like the shadow of the stylus on the paper. The sepia is a nice nostalgic filter for this shot. We all hope for sentiments like this. Makes me think of a former time when people really did write letters!!
