It is a hare (jackrabbit) and, yes, it is wild. I was shooting a horse event and the horse scared it. It ran to near where I was and re-hid. I moved closer very slowly and it stayed put and let me photograph it. The closest I can get with that lens was 1.5 meters and that's how close it let me get. What I don't know is if the horse that scared it might have hurt it which might have been why it stayed put for me.
This is great. I have an affinity for rabbits, so maybe I like this shot because of that. I do appreciate his camouflage with all of the brown and beige tones. His one eye is spot on clear. Is he out in the wild??? If so, you're good - they can shoot off faster than a bullet!
