Harry Tavitian [i]is …"the most interesting contemporary Romanian jazzman".
(International Herald Tribune - Oct 19, 1990).

I had the oportunity and honor to photograph him at a concert he had here in my city, and due to poor lighting (verry powerful hot halogenes only from 1 side, I could only get verry contrasty pictures) I think this should work well for this challenge.

Greetings from Critique Club!

From Romania! My sister-in-law is from Romania!

Anyway, this is a great shot! I love it! Had I the chance to vote I would have given it a 7 or 8. The overall composition, the motion on the hands, it's all great. But the high contrast is not really there for me. Some is there but nothing that really stands out against each other, lots of grays.

But again, a great shot otherwise.

Hope this helps.

No it was a concert here on a little stage, in my little town, in north of Romania. Enjoying and feeling the music is what he really does here, even if it maybe looks that way, he was only playing keyboards and no vocals at this point. Thanks.

How this didn`t end up with a much higher placing is puzzling.

Fabulous shot.

Congrats on the top 50. I am very surprised (and disappointed) that this didn't make the top 10! This was one of the best in the challenge. Nice work! I gave this a 9, but didn't get a comment in earlier. The smoothness of the tones and the emotion in the artist are outstanding.

Nicely composed and processed.
Slight amount of motion in the hands really makes this work. (8)

Some nice contrast areas. For me, this would have done well in the Live Music challenge a few weeks back.

Nice portrait shot. Like the movement in the fingers. This might work better in sepia. 8.

wow, what a capture! I imagine you'll hear from people who like the blur on the hands and those that don't--personally, I'd prefer sharp hands, but indeed I think that no matter which way you went there would me mixed reactions. The expression on his face is magnificently expressive, and the details in the beard just make the shot. I hope this places well.

From a glance, I thought it was Fidel Castro on the keyboard!! Nice angle to the shot. The contrast is definitely there. I like the movement of his fingers and the appearance that he's singing. The lighting is well done too.

Nice skin and beard tones. The blurred fingers add to the facial expression.
