Man you must have been gutted with 44th (?) place.
Anyhow, here's your CC moment.
Ever seen Man Ray's photo 'dust breeding'? Look it up somewhere, 'cos this reminds me of it: it has the exact same use of depth of field - and that's a clever trick if you can pull it off, as you have in this shot. I'm not quite sure hw to explain it - but it relies on creating two apparent subjects of a photo that pull against each other, which in turn emphasise the contrast between the two. So here: the hammer is to such an large extent out of focus (I mean so much of the hammer), and the small flowers so completely IN focus - balanced by the solidity, darkness and comparative sheer size of the hammer against the fragility and detail of the plant.
There's s slightly blown-out quality to it - like a rough exposure - from those blown out background elements I suppose, that adds to the texture of the hammer, the grain of the stone surface.
And finally, and this is what most reminds me of the Man Ray shot, a feeling of accidental accumulation. Like those flowers have just blown against a long ago dropped hammer. Gives it some real meaning and intensity. damn i like this a lot.
I could go on at length here - there's a whole compositional element to do with the placing and the lighting of the head of the hammer, and the contrast there with those little flowers - but I'll just mention that - don't want to get into essay writing mode. could almost make it a political photo.
Deserved better than 44th - deserved better than 6.1 too.
Good luck in the future

You did a great job making this look like an old duotone -- my only minor complaint is the "fuzzy" stuff right in front. It is so bright and sharp that it distracts just a bit from the main subject. The upside is that it adds to the feeling of depth. |

just wanted to drop by and say this is way out of place in here. this is a very simple photo, yes, but you did a great job and deserved to be at least in the top 20. good luck!

Your duotones here really bring out the feeling of history from this old hammer. Wonderful composition, too. Depth of Field works perfectly as the hammer gets out of focus, alluding perhaps to its long history and uses. 10 |

Oh, excellent! The colouring shows off the flaky parts of the hammer well, the depth of focus is extremely good, and the angle is lovely. |

Very nice job! Looks like you may have just found it near a beach or something. Nice composition and use of DOF, or lack there of. |

Great texture on the metal. Maybe a slightly tighter crop would enhance the impact? |

Very cool shot. A little too much saturation for me. I would have desaturated this a little. Love the crusty hammer and the sand/stuff around it! 7. |

ah, nice macro. The sepia tone does well in this photo, enhancing the oldness of the hammer. well done. |
