This pair of shoes were new - but no, they weren't bought solely with the shoe competition in mind :) I found them to have quite an interesting sole. My wife was asked to model for me. I’ll have to say that it’s a good thing to use a model with almost similar size as the shoes - I didn't. A pair of 35's (US 5.5) is here seen standing in a pair of 43's (US 9.5-10).

I finally found a shot suitable for the competition - but a 5th place in your first submission, well I'm honored! Thanks again!

What a great capture! Amazing depth of field, colors, and composition. The right shoes seems just a tad overprocessed but it doesn't take away from the photo. A well deserved 10! This should place high!

Going back to review my votes....Yours made above 5 cut. Great focus and DOF.

Good use of DOF. Although it looks a bit like the pose of the following shoe is kinda artifical just so it can be fully visible beside the front shoe. It would seem more natural if the perspective caused some of it to be obscured behind the front shoe. And I know this may seem like nitpicking (that's what happens with a good idea that's well executed) but maybe there should be some contact with the ground (even the heel of the shoe perhaps) to really carry through the effect of grip and friction. 9

I like the depth of field and the tread pattern on the bottom.

Now that's some DOF for you... Fantastic shot - love the perspective. Amazing detail in the foreground too. Great job.

Perhaps you meant to say "Traction". Anyways, great DOF, focus, color and composition. The wave of onthe bottom of the shoe really adds perspective. Only thing I don't like is the graininess.

I really like this. Great angle, great perspective. Focus and clarity are good, dof works well. The only thing bugging me a bit is the pixelish look in the back foot and the bottom of the front foot. Seems noisy or pixelated or something. Otherwise, excellent shot.

8 - Great shot. One of the best of shoes and 'what they do' in my opinion in the Challenge. Also looks like a macro to me. Criticism; not much, perhaps a slight 'straightening' of the shoe, less noise (if possible) on the 'far shoe'. Perhaps if there was more 'empty space' to the right of the 'far shoe' it may have made this shot even better, in my opinion, but not sure, plus you are restricted 'sizewise'. I just like the perspective and angle, the colors, detail in textures and the simplicity, well done. A little baffled as to why it needed to be validated, but 'it has been'.

interesting photo. feels like the viewer is about to get squashed which is a cool effect. i would have liked the back shoe to be in focus also.

You nailed this shot ... in midstride! Rumbling down the track of an elemental theme, this piece works because all its components move right into the viewer, just as the stride does. The white BG isolates the activity and forces the eye to remain riveted on the freight train bearing down. The crisp focus on what is about to hit, aids in identity and proximity. But the best part of this composition is the trailing foot that, though only an apparition at this point, we know is going to clobber us soon after the front foot lands. It is this anticipation that forces our eye to survey the scene and calculate how much longer we have until impact. Great conception and execution! One of my top ten picks for this week's challenge.

Interesting photo! This idea is creative and I love how the shoe in the front is in such good focus. (Not to mention the colors are nice) Simple, but nice.
