That is real honest to goodness 1950's Hamilton Beach mixer, aqua enamel on metal and complete with chrome...yep...and it still works...weighs about a ton.

I had another title in mind..."Jerked", Danny liked "Freshly Jerked" but I thought not many would get the reference...the SODA JERK reference...get yer minds outta the gutter : }

You know...the guys who worked the soda fountain counters back in the day? I actually had the priviledge of working in an "old school" corner store / pharmacy that used to have one of these before everything got all "convenient" and Walmarty.

Can you tell I like mid century Americana?

Post challenge:

frankenstein = frankenshake...get it?

The lighting and title were a reference to those great 50's era horror/B movies...think Ed Wood. I did my best to keep any really odd reflection out of the chrome...but then again it's chrome. The light was "painted", as I do in many of my other images hence the "strange-ness" of it... I just wish I had hit those drips a bit on the counter top...surprised no one mentioned this...my Dad mentioned it immediately, "cool...too bad you missed the counter drips" oh well...you live, you learn...oh...and there were no dairy products harmed or wasted in the making of this image...my shake is a mix of water, flour, and a bit a baking soda for froth...thick drippy goodness...I'm way to frugal to play with actual milk...and this is probably also why I still use my little beat up S45...if it ain't totally broke...don't fix it right?...just rig it so it works.

This was one my few 10's of this challenge, I'm glad I ran across it again. Great shot, I absolutely love the concept, old kitchen stuff is so cool and has such great lines, almost begs to be photographed. I like the almost mono colors here, the green stands out without being to overdone. Background is good and lighting is excellent. Great job

The mixer was my father-in-laws, he, I think, "liberated" it from a closed down diner in Philly...so the story goes. I just LOVE fifties kitchen stuff, actually mid century stuff in general...so much fun to photograph!

Another one of my favourites in this challenge. Lovely desat. Brilliant atmospheric lighting. Having a hard time understanding how some of the images above you got there.;)

Neat ideas. I like the spilling of the shake and the shadow was good and good tittle.

You actually managed to scare me with a dairy product! Not easy to do. This is a superior composition and the illusion of selective desat is a terrific touch. Your skilled eye for detail, lighting and framing is evident in this shot. Wonderful work and one of my picks to ribbon.

Love the lighting. I think if you had a slight hint of motion blur to play up the theam a bit more I think this would be perfect. Hell, it's pretty perfect as it is.

aptly named. the desaturation and dark shadow really add punch to it. the reflection of the camera in the appliance is the only thing i would change. 9.

Very good and creative take on the challenge! The shadows give this the "spooky" look (in a funny way). Love the title! 9

This didn't appeal to me that much, but it's creative. I like the shadow, kind of looks like a monster.

Not sure how to put how I feel about this photo in words. I like it, but I think it is the title that makes this shot work rather than the shot itself. Without the title, I think this shot would be kind of lost in the shuffle. I think you have really created a dark, spooky, sci-fi mood with the lighting, etc. Not sure if the title came first or the shot, but it really works. Good luck!

GAH! Scary Frankenshake.

Seriously though, the flash reflection is a bit distracting off of the mixer. Otherwise extremely original in comparison to the other pix.

Loved the subject, did not like the strong shadow of it. Takes away from the wonderful creativity of this shot.

Clever idea, doesn't quite come off with the shadows on the wall etc

cool consept...well exicuted i like the looming shadow...

...but i can see the reflection of the room in the crom top...its just the slightest bit distracting to the simple nature of the scean...but i am being picky.
