Great idea for this shot. The high contrast color bothers me a little though. I think that maybe a different color background would help. Maybe a black background and some color desaturation of everything except for the eyes would create a lot of impact. I think showing the rest of the model's right eye would help too since her eyes are quite piercing. I also would prefer the light source on the model's left to be slightly dimmer so it doesn't blow out her left side so much.

Lighting seems extremely harsh here which has also resulted in an over exposed shot.

great expression on the model's face. hot spots on the right detrack from this picture. cropping seems a bit tight on the sides; maybe show a bit more of the shoulders and arms?
08/27/2005 11:45:24 AM
Watch out for those nails!
08/27/2005 09:24:13 AM
highlights are a bit much
08/27/2005 04:12:07 AM
I like the message and light!! Let me suggest not to crop so much on the shoulders.
Anyway, very good!

I personally found the starkness of the highlights and the hair over the right eye a little distracting.
08/25/2005 12:29:01 PM
And a very important key it is. I like the feel of this picture. Lighting looks great.

Very interesting take on the theme, a little too suggestive for me, but I am trying to be more open for this challenge. The one thing that really bugs me is the bright highlights on the right hand side.

Lighting seems way too harsh. But otherwise not bad at all.

I like it. The fingernails take my attention away from the key though. I hope you do O.K. Good luck.

Returning for comments... Does your model really have red & black hair like this? Interesting, but distracting. The facial expression of the model is intriguing. It is not your everyday smiley face, posed for the max appeal. On the contrary, this model has attempted and managed to convey the real emotion(s). Now please go and take her cuffs off. Good luck! 7.

Interesting imagery!! I'm wondering if you are getting ready to escape, or are offering the key to someone. My only complaint is the light is a bit harsh for the dark background. Nicely done!

A little too red. Nice intensity in the models eyes but otherwise her facial expression betrays the defiant mood it seems you were going for.

The lighting is a little off, and im not too sure of the pose. Not sure her looking into the camera works either, instead I would have her look down at the key.

Like the crop/composition. The lighting is a little harsh - a sheer piece of fabric over the window would soften it to improve skin tone and shadows. 6 - good luck in the challenge!

seems a bit bright on the right side, very sharp.
08/23/2005 06:12:53 AM
too tight a crop, lighting from her left really harsh.
08/23/2005 04:44:26 AM
Good idea. Nice choice of framing. To me, the lighting seems to be a little too strong. Some areas along the right seem to be blown out, to the point where the left hand, and even parts of the right fingers, definition is lost.

Kind of kinky. Good composition. IMHO the right side of her face, shoulder and arm are way to bright. 7

Great shot, but a few things distract me from "the key" which is your primary subject.

Alot of distractions, I'm listing them, so that you can try to retake without them in the future.

Her nails are too bright, and picking up the key is tricky. I'd probably either bring down the red in post, or possibly even have her pick a more subdued color. They look like professionally done, so would take prior planning.

Below her hands is the remnants of the chain the key is on, pull that up into her hand, it makes the handcuffs almost dissappear, as it catches the light.

II love the tattoo in this situation, it's great, and only seeing half of it, makes me wish I could see more.

Last, the black hair, it's out of place with all of the reds, and whites. If it was pulled behind the shoulder, it would have been less distracting.

The lighting seems a little harsh to me. I like the eye contact the model has with the camera.
08/22/2005 06:53:42 PM
this is a little of a stange shot for me - the model looks like she was about to say something to the photog rather than ready to take a photo.
Oh i just noticed the key as i have tped this (3 views now) it is a little blown out and not the first thing your ye is drawn too.

This is a litle scary
08/22/2005 05:20:58 PM
This is an interesting image.
It seems to hold my attention more than most of the other images.
Thecnically it is not perfetc. Lighting is a little harsh on the right of the picture, there are many interesting things to look at, and open questions.
Why is she hand cuffed, why has she got red & black hair, why is she looking at me like that.
Good job. 8

I love the light in her eyes, that devilish gleen says so much in the context of this shot. I think the harsh lighting works well here as well as do all the touches of red. Perfect model to add the toughness/attitude to this scene.

The lighting is too harsh

interesting shot, feel the lighting is a bit too harsh on the highlights and wish the shadows were darker.

had this been a typical studio portrait, the tight crop would have been a negative. However, in this photo, I think that her expression combined with the tighness of the crop really emphasize her bound condition. The whole photo just resonates with tension, and not necessarily sexual tension.

I find this intriguing. A little over-exposed on the right.

I find the red nails a bit distracting. This might have more punch with a black and white filter. It would concentrate more on the detail and less on the various shades of red, but maybe that was your intent. Just my personal taste.

very harsh lighting and poor color cast.

Harsh lighting and a somehwat negative expresion hurt what would otherwise be a very good entry. Good luck.
