The moss & dirt had been torn up by a bear on this little oasis in the middle of the creek and there were tiger swallowtails and these little periwinkle butterflies EVERYWHERE!

This is a lovely capture but it is a little too busyIMO! The main butterflies get a bit lost in the fern and it is quite hard to split them into individual creatures. Very sharp centre and the browns and greens are v. strong. I probably would have cropped it tighter or tried from a lower angle.

Just scrolled down and seen you had quite a few comments on this! Sorry I haven't come up with anything new!

This is so cool. You have the best butterfly photos. I would maybe play around with the colors on this one. I would desat the background and greens just a bit and pump up the butterfly colors - also just a tiny bit. I think it would maintain the scene, but give an easier subject to focus on for the viewer since there is a lot going on.

I do like it alot just the way it is as well. How wonderful to have the camera and be available to capture this sight. Thanks for sharing!

I love this photo... it is so fairytale-ish. The brown moss with the bright butterflies is a great contrast and they are placed very well in the photo. I think this photo is great.

Nice feeling of chaotic activity in this photo. All butterflies a bit soft but I can;t see how you could have done ptherwise. I wonder what it would look like cropped tighter so that the butterflies more-or-less fill the frame even if you clip some of the wings?

A bewildering array of colors and objects makes for a chaotic scene, though this may be what you were trying to convey. The rarity of such a collection gives it interest, but the chaos leaves me unsure of what exactly I should be looking at, costing it a point. The choice of a wide aperture leaves both the far and near butterflies slightly out of focus, and grates on the sense a bit. Since the upper left is already dark, I would have burned it out to get rid of the hanging bits of vegetation.

Very nice colors and a good capture. This image seems to be a bit busy to me. I can't put my finger on what is distracting me but it seems like a glow or so neat image. Not sure.

Still a good image but the focal point seems busy and doesn't hold my attention.

This shot proves that breaking the rules once and a while pays off...Great shot! The composition and the clutter of the shot are both in the shots best interest. Crisp and clear image!

Awesome colours and not the sort of thing you see every day! I think the busy-ness works because the butterflies are light-coloured and the bg is dark, so it's not overpowering.
Great crisp, sharp image!

Wow. Very cool shot. Sometimes the best images are of things we never see if only because they give us a glimpse into what is possible. People could argue about composition and busi-ness and DOF but in doing that, they miss what is in front of them.
