In 1907, Abe Doumar's first Ice Cream Cone Stand in Norfolk was in Ocean View Amusement Park. John Doumar ran Doumar's first soda fountain in the historic Wells Theater, downtown Norfolk.

In 1934, George moved the business to the current location due to a hurricane. Albert and his brother Vic Doumar managed the current location for many years. Today, Albert still bakes cones on the original cone machine (times vary but usually between 9am-10:30am Monday through Saturday; and is ably assisted by Thad & Randy --still serving it up with the family's traditional excellence.

The modern cars don't fit the time period.

A good shot of a good year.

Damn! Now i have an idea for this challenge! We have a 'curb service' restaurant near me, since 1949.

Your year is off though. 1954 or 58 would have been better than 1934. I don't think they had fourescent lights in '34.

Those cars look much newer than 1934.

Great shot - even the car in the background looks dated.

Would have liked the sign not cropped, it leads me right out of the picture.

Mini-vans in 1934? How about Norfolk 2005?

I see where you were going with this, but the modern looking sign and the very modern cars take awy from that 1934 feel.

The SUV and the modern motorcycle really take away from the time period of the title. It is an interesting composition, but it just isn't depicting the time era of 1934 to me.

Sign is cropped partly, modern day autos in the picture. I would've scored higher (as the sky is extremely interesting in this pic and the metering looks good) but those two issues dropped the score.

B&W would have helped it more.

This really screams the 1950's to me, not 1934...I really like this image..the deep blue of the sky is great and the light that comes from the drive up is fantastic...if that SUV weren't there this would be even better, but there was nothing you could rreally do about that except maybe wait...I still really like this, It reminds me of an old postcard.
