A plush heart with shattered glass all over it.
I think the symbolism is evident ;-)

Your right that this is a clear message, and it does have an emotive side. I won't address the things you mentioned, except to say that where the light is passing through the glass it is blue. And the edges of the glass are greenish. I like it though.

I think you may have been able to make it a bit more dramatic/mysterious/emotional by having it a touch darker. Now, I know that this is risky, because if a picture is the least bit dark, you will get 1001 comments about it. Having said that, maybe with softer lighting it wouldn't look quite so harsh. The bright light almost gives it a flat look. Where you using a diffuser or anything to soften the light?

Also, I think you could play around with the composition (though not too much, or you might cut a finger off!). Though the glass serves well to draw the eyes out from the heart, it is a bit too centered I think. Maybe you could have hinted at it being a heart by cropping some of it out of the frame, or by having the "center" of the glass somwewhere other than so close to the top of the heart. I understand that you may have been limited in your choice of placement, but these are just suggestions, that if possible, may have helped.

If you have any comments or questions, please feel free to PM me. Best to you in future challenges.

Hmmm.... To be honest I'm a bit disappointed by the average score. I thought a photo with a clear message and being more on the emotive side would do better than this.

Some responds to the comments:
- There can't be a blue tint, because I actually did desaturate all colours except red.
- I used a 1000 Watt lamp for lighting to get a small aperture, so that everything is in focus. Maybe this was a bit too much because someone said it looks like I used a flash.
Lighting from the side would have been a bad idea in my opinion because then there would be an even more nasty shadow from the heart. But I used a smaller lamp from the upper left side, to get some refractions in the glass to make the edges better visible.
- Some said it's oversharpened. Well, normally I get comments complaining that the focus is too soft, so I used unsharp mask in post-processing. I thought that for this subject sharpness was vital, but maybe I overdid it ;-)

Ok. Thanks for oyur comments. Until next week :)

Good idea and well pulled off. The red is so vivid, the broken glass gives your image a lot of impact.

neat idea, i think it might be over-sharpened a bt because of the bright white specs along the glass edges. i somehow might try lighting from the sides, almost looks like a flash.

It appears this was a pillow placed behind the glass. I would have like to see the heart painted directly on the glass, then broken. I felt this was a very unique presentation. . . a cut (no punn inteneded) above the others. The bluish shading you captured was also a plus but because it is lifted up above the pillow the shadows of the shards are distracting. Nice shot and as I said, great idea. LOL

I love the concept! I think you did a great job lighting the glass and the simplicity of the piece really works.

It may not be an enjoyable picture, but it has taken some thought and is original

Interesting concept... nicely done. What did you make the heart out of? I like the way they come together near the top of the heart instead of right in the middle. Good job with the lighting.

I'd call it heartbreak, nice job. I think I would like more contrast in the shards. 6

Apt title. Like the ring in Italian "fruh-gee-leh"... :-)

Looks like you took great efforts to ste this one up, would of liked to seen it with a black background, though perhaps would of made hard to see glass.

Is the glass superimposed on the heart in photoshop? They seem disconnected somehow. Also, there's some kind of focus issue going on, IMHO.

Nice idea. The edges of the glass shards have some jaggies which are a bit distracting for me. Perhaps the sharpening or resizing settings? It might work better with a dark background (then again, it might not :-)

Really powerful image I like it. The color is done well, not too saturated. The white is really bright, but seems to hvae some tints of blue in it (from passing through the glass) desaturating everything but red might have made this a bit better. Overall though I like it. Well done.
