Wow! How did you get studio lighting in a zoo? 10

He appears stuffed, right? The shot is really well done and the spotlight effect is quite effective.

Best of the big cat shots IMHO!

I don't know what you did to make this look so much like an oil painting, but I like it a lot...the way the light falls (did you use the spotlight filter?)and the slight blurring of face is lovely in effect.

This is an incredible image!! The light is absolutely beautiful. You must have gotten in the cage with him... now that's dedication!

really nice, looks illustrated, I'll bet you're getting hammered on that. Really nice work, the best thing I've seen come out of a zoo in a long time.

feels like the eyes have been boosted whilst the rest has been 'taken back'. Not sure I like the contrast, however I do like the lighting effect

This is my number 1 pick for this challenge - it is beautiful!

That's a great pose of a great beast. Wonderful composition too. Probably without all the Photoshopping I'd give this a 10. Unfortunately, you're at the mercy of the phillistine masses, of which I am one. The way this poor lionized lion looks, I'd expect to see it on a fuzzy blanket at a flea market. I'm going to find out where you live after the challenge ends, and come & take your silly lionizing filter away from you. Though you don't deserve it after slaughtering this photo, i'm going to give you a 7 anyway, just because I like you. Don't let me catch you lionizing any more lions or I'll report you to the SPCA. That also goes for womanizing any women!

Is this a photograph of a painting? I can't put my finger on what makes this look unreal.

Is this a photo of a painting? Something about it doesn't look "real". The eyes and cheek/whiskers have so much more detail than the rest of the image (and there's a black spot underneath the lowest whisker that looks unnatural). I like the lighting. If this is a real lion, then I think you should give a tutorial on how you got it to look like a painting! I'm not crazy about the eyes. An interesting shot, nonetheless.

Wow!!! When I ran accross the shot my immediate thought was CLASSIC. What a great grab. It looksas though he justhad his mane done. You handled the obvious lighting challenge skillfully. This is a winner! imo

I don't know what's going on, but it more look like a painting than a photo to me. From your title, it looks like it was the effect your were after. Definately look edited too much to me. Still, nice capture of the lion's eyes

This looks like a painting, almost unreal. If it is a photo - you caught a wonderful shot.

This is so regal looking! The lighting is spectacular being right there just in his face area and around his paws. He definitely looks like King of the Jungle!!!!! I would not be at all surprised to see this one in the winner's circle :) 10

Lovely photo and I appreciate your efforts at post editing, however I feel its a little over done, especially the eyes & whiskers. The lighting effects are good though.

Since I am lacking in technical skills, I cannot give helpful comments. I am strictly a photo buff who is trying to improve, but as to telling you what is wrong or right, I am in no position to say. I am simply voting based on whether I like the picture or not. Sorry, maybe someday I will be able to give helpful advice

The dodging/burning is overdone and the eyes are very unnatural. I would have liked to have seen a less processed image, and I think it would have done fine.
