This is the Providence State House. It has the 4th largest self-supporting marble dome in the world. Yep, the world. It also stood in for the U.S. Captitol in Steven Spielberg's epic movie "Amistad." It's one of my favorite subjects to photograph. It really is a symbol of independence for me, since Rhode Island was founded by Roger Williams in a bid for religious freedom from the Quakers in Boston. He also founded the First Baptist Church in America, which didn't make the submission cut for editing reasons. Because it does look so much like the Capitol building in Washington, D.C. it's a constant reminder of what it means to me to be free and independent here in America.

Unfortunately, this one needed a ton of work since it was shot after a night out with my pal Kiki. I wanted to see if I could get a starburst effect without a cross-screen or starburst filter. There were a lot of editing steps here, so I'll try to remember them all.

First, fix tilted horizon. Then, bring up the midtones, adjust levels, adjust contrast, adjust tint, adjust hue and saturation, and then finally a run through NeatImage for noise. Sharpen, then unsharp mask, and re-size for web.

I imagine this will have an average score, and I'm submitting to see what people say about the starburst effect. I've admired the results when used by others, just checking in to see if it works here as well as I hope it does.

nice shot, the light infront of the building draws my eye to it a little too much

A little hazy or washed out. Good shot, though

Im not sure if its just light pollution or the time the picture was taken, but the redness of the sky is a little weird. There is also some color noise which is a little distracting.

This is magnificent. The colors, the light, the illuminated building! I love the fuzziness of the red sky. Just stunning.
