Smooth is good,adds to the happy face.Grainy will go well with sadness.

While this is a great moment captured, I'd like to see the grainy original. The black-and-white conversion works very well, but it sems unnaturally smooth.

What a neat moment to capture! The inkling of a smile makes the shot. He has that shy look to him. You have captured an emotional connection, in this shot particular, with you as the photographer. That's what it's all about. Capturing emotion, mood, and/or feeling. Well done!
