For the same reason that this image may well earn a ribbon of the same colour as its subject, I would strongly urge some dog owners to please consider the consequences of their lazy selfishness.

I wish I could say this was joke poo but, sadly, I found this on the inside of an enclosed kids' playground where dogs are banned.

This is a scene that greets people all too often in parks and woodland everywhere and I absolutely hate the stuff. Especially, after a friend of mine got a football in the face directly after it landed in dog shit and he got a chunk of pasty poo right in his mouth. He threw up immediately.

If anyone's offended by this, then moan at some filthy people who let this happen so frequently - don't shoot the messenger.

You may have guessed that this pisses me off rather a lot and I think it's way more antisocial then public smoking, nudity, sex - or virtually anything else I can think of. It's the worst - and I'm fed up with having to watch my and my kids' steps all the time.

Well, that's it - at least I've had my say in exchange for a reduced voting average!

Taken with a Sony 1mp Handycam - and demonstrates that, to voters here, subject is everything with technical ability a very distant last!

i love dogs - actually mine is on her last legs, and it is as disturbing as this photo. it really isn't all the difficult to clean up the excrement, and though i don't enjoy it, i respect the path behind me and wish others were as considerate.

dogshit one of these luxuryproblems we can afford to worrie about
but i can relate to this as this tiny peace of earth im living on everyone seems to have at least 2 dogs
this cute street where i live is a favourite alley for walking the dog
so sometimes i feel they should rename it 'dogshitavenue'
its not for the dogs they are great but there is no limit to the lack of social abilities of people and its all around :-((

but Jon the reason i put it on my fav list is i think it is kool u dont care to hurt your average a bit to make youre point !

Every time a picture like this comes up I am forced to use my 'rule of turds' gag. Anyway, agree with the sentiment as I had to scrape the stuff off my daughter's football the other evening......

Yes, I suppose it did do better than expected!

Did better than you expected, didn't it? I know what you are talking about and I absolutely hate it too. It's everywhere!

Remind me never to borrow your camera...ever. A lot of talk is made here about shots that do well and shots that don't. You know this won't do well based soley on the subject alone. I mean, come on, Americans hate soccer - plain and simple.

Don't take this the wrong way, but your photo looks like crap! :)

Disgusting detail - I really feel I'm right there! Nice to include the ball and the kids in the background - it really helps get your message across. The bright blades of glass in the foreground distract - but could you have gotten in closer without passing out?

Hehe - Were you hoping for 'turd' position?

this shot stinks! But you have done a great job of placing everything in context, telling a real story. the grass in the foreground (left) is distracting, but the shot works anyway. bumping up

Might I add that it is good to see some originality in a challenge full of hundreds of bug and flower photos, however a fly might have been appropriate for this picture. While not necessarily a macro, this close up, I believe still meets the criteria for a close-up although the background which contains more pleasent subjects and colors is rather distracting. Since I have dogs, I have seen more interesting poop. This picture seems rather flat, lacking focus, depth and texture. Maybe a better angle, lighting and composition (and perhaps a different diet for the dog) would provide better color and texture to a good poop. As it stands, it is only a pile of sh**. LOL Good luck in the challenge. :-)

While this is technically a good shot, subject-wise it just doesn't work. I don't know if you thought you were just going to test the theory that people would vote down a technically good photo based on subject matter, but I hope your experiment works. I know this shot just doesn't work for me, and it's repellent enough for me to vote it down based on the subject. So... 7 for the technicals, and 2 for the subject. Overall, 4.5, and I'll give you half a point for humor. 5 from me.
