Challenge: Leading Lines II (Advanced Editing IV)
Collection: Challenge Entries
Camera: Canon EOS-20D
Lens: Tamron SP AF 28-75mm f/2.8 XR Di for Canon
Location: Euston Underground Station, London
Date: Jun 22, 2005
Aperture: F/3.2
ISO: 800
Shutter: 1/50th sec
Galleries: Urban, Transportation
Date Uploaded: Jun 26, 2005

Taken on one of the platforms at Euston Underground station in London. This is one of many, many shots that I tried while waiting for various tube trains in the past week, and was the best of the set - pity there wasn't a train in frame, but you can't have everything sometimes :o)

The original was cropped, sat/levels adjusted, all desaturated apart from the yellow of the line, resized, focus sharpened, and double bordered.

Great shot, but I would have liked it more with deeper DOF. Still very effective either way though. Great job.

I like it as it is, I think if there was a train it would take a way from the photo. The black hole tunnel works very well. Nice photo.

did anyone else notice that the guy seems to be looking at the camera and thinking "what is that weirdo with the camera doing laying on the platform". Or is it just me!
Great photo manic!

Love the idea but it seems just a bit out of focus down the line, The low light probably didn't help much but it is a nice shot.

Excellent image, to me you have captured the challenge exactly (where a lot of others failed) - 10

Awesome what putting the camera so low to the ground will achieve! You have some apparent distortion on the top corners. Is this because of a fish eye lens or trick of the perspective in a place with out a squared off ceiling?

Really like this image....the selective desat, grain, angle, distortion..all works together and creates a good image. Congrats (8)

Glad you chose this one, it's one of the ones I liked lot. I love the shallow DOF in the foreground and the way the entire foreground is full of leading lines sweeping into the image. The curve of the tunnel roof makes a great frame to the image and the tunnel opening is the perfect main focal point. That said I like that there's more to look at such as the people, signs and posters too. Selective desat is a technique that is often over-used but here it works fantastically well. 9

nice street photo, good use of selective desat. I hope it does well.

I think that the composition and colour treatment are great, although perhaps I'd like to see more of the foreground in sharper focus.

Great perspective. Cool subject. Great focus/dof. Glad to see a couple people in the shot, I think it adds some interest. I also think this is a case where the selective desat works well, and strengthens the image. Nice job.

I like the composition, but I think the DOF is lacking with the foreground being out of focus.

One of the best pictures for this challenge in my opinion. Selective desat enhances the visual strengh of it. Funny look from the passenger, bet he/she thought you were nuts :P

Really cool picture. I think the yellow desat'd line works great for this picture. Good luck.

its clear enough and it has a strongr link with the challenge title, but i think your title should be mor stronger, and the focus, if it was on the front area it will be better.

Very effective use of B/W vs Color. Beautiful leading lines as well. My only issue with the image is that it seems awfully busy (once you get above the yellow line). Not sure whether a tighter crop or gaussian blur would have helped there or not, but I think so. Very nice work! 8

Good use of an interesting perspective. Good use of selective desaturation.
Edit: removed my comment about the line not leading to anything. Congrats on top ten!

I like it. The yellow stripe leads you nicely into the picture. Focus on the distance is great.
After the challenge check out my photo & you'll see why I commented on yours.

I like the selective saturation to make your line stand out. Guy in the background is just a little distracting like he's wondering what the heck you are doing taking a picture of a subway station floor. LOL Picture is clear and lighting is good. 8

beautiful vision, and I hope as you took this there wasn't a train coming along the track. I love the yellow and the selective desat. Very effective use of that here. More dof and focus on the persons would work better on me. 8
