HAHAH, this is no longer zoomdak's "private spot".
I was 100% sure this was his shot, but then what a surprise! It's novatiger's shot! Oh well, with such an incredible place, shooting this is even more than a pleasure, it's a blessing! Great work and congrats

Can we amend the rules now ...? No more shots of the oregon coastline, particularly not this beach!!!

Oh well... congrats on the ribbon, with this pretty shot.

Hah! Stole Zoomdak's beach right out from under his nose! LOL

Man, that GTG paid off big time didn't it?

I believe an explanation is in order regarding the feather which, apparently was not popular...at all (and yet I still pulled out a blue!) I was experimenting around and seeing how it looked with the feather in the shot. I was browsing through my shots from the GTG and saw this one and decided it might be workable--but did not notice the feather until I opened it up in PS. I decided to gamble and not crop it out (in part because I felt that was a greater evil than leaving it in) and see what it did or didn't do for the image's score. I'm glad it didn't hurt my score too badly!

Holy crap...a blue...I NEVER thought I'd get a blue. NEVER. Yellow maybe (and I did) but then this, and so quickly after my yellow! You could knock me over with a, well, feather!

Thank you all SO much for commenting! I appreciate every chance I get to learn.

Really nice shot, congrats on the blue. I wonder which has had a more positive impact on property values in Astoria, The Goonies or DPC?
06/22/2005 12:35:23 AM
WTG Ryan!!!!
So cool! Congrats on your 2 ribbons!!
06/22/2005 12:22:15 AM
Ryan, cool night shot. To think I walked off the beach to go warm up in the car while you were down on the beach shooting a blue ribbon...cracks me up. Congrats. You're square-rigged & on a roll!
06/22/2005 12:21:22 AM
this is completely bogus! nice photo but...well...you know...
06/22/2005 12:14:58 AM
Congratulations on the blue. You deserve it.
06/22/2005 12:10:59 AM
One of my favorites. Congratulations.
06/22/2005 12:04:51 AM
Excellent shot, zoomdak - er, I mean NovaTiger. ;-) Really, I'm just yankin yer chain - this is an outstanding shot and a well deserved ribbon. Congratulations!
06/22/2005 12:04:33 AM
My goodness! I should have entered this same shot as well (not the same, but very similar), lol. Nice back to back ribbons!
06/22/2005 12:03:12 AM
A superb image that meets and exceeds this challenge because while it is a night shot it incorporates and weaves an eerie sense of darkness. Congratulations on your Blue.

Beautiful.

I feel like I've been to this beach! Gorgeous colors and reflections. The stick or whatever it is to the left doesn't carry the power of the large boulders so it makes me feel distracted. Even so, this photo is superb and I think it deserves a 10 (the only one I'm giving in this challenge). Maybe I'll see this place for real one day.

Great sky. Love the deep oranges on the left. The feather/ reed in the foreground left is sort of confusing. I'm not sure what the thing is and where it is. Still a great photo.

This is very pretty and who can resist a reflected sunset? Not quite convinced that it needed to be quite so dark (even for this challenge)?

Ah, Hah!!! The Oregon GTG did manage to get a submission from the shots taken there. The big question is whose is it? Have to eliminate Zoomdak because it is a two word title and it is not Italian. That still leaves a number of other culprits. :)

Anyway, nice image with great reflections and the color, though enhanced, is not overly done. Composition is good with the possible exception of the seagull feather on the left. It was probably put there for composition in the image but one might question if it adds much to the composition. It makes the viewer ask why it is there. Just looks stuck in the ground for no apparent reason. The haloing on the few small bright edges on the rocks should be removed.

Light is lovely, reflections are beautiful on tranquil water, and I like the rock silhouettes..one question: is that a feather in the left foreground?

I'm having trouble deciding what to focus on here. The reed, or whatever it is, on the front left really bugs me but even without that where am I meant to be looking?

Zoomdak? :) Even the central orange opening in the clouds looks like a Z.
If not much compliments! The feather in the sand is a lovely touch.
Seastacks make such great sunset beach shots. We have lots here in CentralCal. The one I take shots of the most is Morro Rock which is actually a volcanic plug. I endevor not to over-use it, but it's so tempting. Good luck! 9

Awesome photo! I love the colors and the composition. The image fits the challenge very nicely too. I'm not sure about the feather though. I think you should have either made it a more prominent part of the image, or just left it out.

Normally I don't try to guess who it was that entered a particular photo, but in this case I'm making an exception. Nice work Ryan! :)
