 I tried some salt on its own and it was sort of bland. Converted to BW and blech! I wanted to use the sea salt with some color...I tried lighting it but did not have the proper gels to do so. I went back to the CD and the jewel case reflections and got tons of color. I shot with a pike of salt but that was more color than salt. So I spread the salt out in a second shoot but the focus was off on the salt. The third shoot got the focus on the salt and color, but there was not enough salt as it melted in the water on the CD. I added some more...than my light blew out. Smokin'!. Fortunately I had just bought a spare or two and changed the bulbs. Whew! This, I thought had good color, focus on the salt and the addition of all the little bubbles in the water from the disspation (sic) of the original salt. Shot in super macro mode with a 10x close up filter (Hoya).

Post: Layer adjustments for levels, brightness/contrast and hue saturation. USM. Crop. Resize. USM.

makes me think of drugs, interesting shot
but the background looks more interesting than the salt.

Good idea. I like the colors in the background, however the salt grains didn't come out very appealing.
