COMPOSITION
I like the elements you have chosen to work with here. There is just something special about children and flowers. I think, compositionally, though, it may have worked better if you had tried one of a couple of different things. First, you could have tried a portrait/vertical framing. This would have prevented the top of her little head being chopped off, and it would have allowed more of her arms and hands to show. If you really wanted it horizontal, then I would recommend moving the frame so that the child is more on the left, and more flowers on the right were showing.

TECHNIQUE
The focus works okay here. Her arms do seem a bit soft, but it is also interesting how the flowers on the right are focused, adn those on the left are not. I love the concentration on her face; you have captured a priceless memory here.

OVERALL EFFECT
Though I understand the connection to the challenge here, some may have found it a bit of a stretch. Perhaps a lower camera angle to capture some blue sky or something would have made a difference. I think you have done well. Best to you in future challenges.

This is a good portrait photo, but the weather theme is overpowered by the fact that it's a portrait. I believe that working with the theme of weather could have produced a stronger image... - setzler

Endearing portrait. And that's coming from someone who normally doesn't care much about pictures of children! I like how the child intently contemplates the daisy it's playing with. Like the setting of the image as well with the joyous abundance of daisies. Two nitpicks: the light on the right arm seems off and a little washed out; and too bad the yellow flower growing out of its head.7 Journey

Sorry, doesn't really meet the challenge in my opinion.. 5

what an adorably little pudgy thing! :)

I expected at least one of these. Others are probably voting you low for not specifically showing weather, huh? With the cute little girl (Wow--check out that hair!), I give it a 7.

nice idea

What a sweet baby, nice shot.

Cute. good focus on the face, but the hands and flower appear soft compared to the flowers to the right. Like to have the rest of the head in there.

Adorable photo.

for some reason it really bothers that the baby's head was cropped and maybe if the shot were vertical.or just a bit more pulled back. You caught a nice feeling of .the " does love me or not " thing and who wouldn't love the little cutey

Ah little cutey! Good pic, perhaps if the child hadn't been so centered, rather set more to the left or right this would have more impact. Also a little sharpening in the postprocessing would have gotten rid of the soft feeling of this image.

Great picture, very cute. In my personal opinion though, it doesn't totally meet the challenge 100%, although I do get the concept "effects of weather" you are trying to convey. I think if the picture had less focus ont he child and more on the flowers, it wouldn't have been such a stretch.

This is on heck of a stretch for the weather challenge
04/14/2003 05:14:13 PM
great photo, but without the title I wouldn't know this was weather...

good use of symmetry with the flowers in the background. if there were more flowers to the left & right, i think the picture would have been improved with a less tight crop and these flowers included.

Classic shot. nice work.

Nice picture, i can almost feel the weather!

Would have worked better in a portrait orientation.

Erm,they cant be May flowers. Try turning the camera through 90 degrees and locating the brat more to the left of frame (as the gaze here is from left to right). Then you wont be cropping the head and arm so much. You also need to fill in that big black space over the shoulder there. Not a big score Im afraid, as the connection is a bit tenous, but dont despair, my entry this week is suffering a similar fate.

I don't see weather here, I see a toddler picking petals off a flower. Yes it's a lovely looking kid but no reference to the theme here.
