Hello form the Critique Club!

This image is very much like an Escher painting; the images in the lens are upright, upside-down, reversed, reflected and who knows what else. A few minutes of studying induces a headache - but in a good way.

I love the sentiment behind this picture: the history, the nostalgia, the new camera and young photographer looking through to the past via an old camera and its owner - who have captured and ‘preserved’ the stars of years gone by. As a fan of old black and white films I appreciate the intent behind this image. I also like the illusion that you seem to be photographing the viewer.

The lens itself creates a striking framing device and seems to reveal its story, with the framed images of the forgotten stars on the wall. It’s a doorway into the past. As a photographer I find those images and their history fascinating. So the image does hold your attention.

As someone has already mentioned - wearing a yellow top was not the wisest choice in a silhouette challenge and had you worn something darker you may have come closer to fulfilling the challenge, because there is no silhouette here that I can find.

I don’t mind the out of focus exterior of the camera, but that gold chain is very distracting. Your crop seems very severe too. However, as the main focus is the image in the lens, it is forgivable.

This is a fascinating, strange almost hypnotic image in the wrong challenge.

Concept: Interesting, but muddled with flaws of the subject: nail holes, wire, gold thing.
Center focus: Too busy to remain interesting.
Challenge: I cannot see it.
Composition: Centered focus, poor crop.
Sorry, I just have nothing really good to say about this image.

which challenge were you shooting for?

Can a reflection be a silhouette too?

I really like this image, but I can't see how it meets the challenge. The portrait crop mirrors the shape of the frames reflected in the lens, but I think that squaring the image slightly to include a little more breathing room to the left and right of the lens would have improved the image.

Unfortunately this not a silhouette. Your image appears that it may be slighly out of focus and there are many distracting parts of this image. Wishing you luck on future challenges.

I really like this picture...but I really don't see a silhouette, it seems to be more of a reflection...still a very interesting image though.

I see no silouette at all here...

Definately a creative take on the challenge, however, I don't think it will go over well with DPC voters. IMO, if you where able to adjust the lighting to dull the colours of your hat and shirt (i.e. better silhoutte your reflection) it may have helped. Good Luck.

It's an interesting approach to the challenge and I'm drawn to it. It's backlit, allright, even if it's a reflected backlighting. I like the composition and the choice of reflected background.

This is an interesting reflection but not a silhouette. Is this your studio? I'm not sure what the object is, but interesting.

Sorry if I'm being dense - and I usually am, but I can't see a silhouette here

Interesting photo. However, does not meet challenge guidlines.

not a silhouette to be found (though this looks interesting)

where is the silhouette?
