Clay and J.P. were in the backyard this afternoon, up to their necks in dirt. Imagine that. Any of you who have boys know how they play. I happened to snap a few shots of them, and I loved the look on Clay's face in this one. I am trying to practice shooting and processing RAW images right now, so bear with a few more family and/or mundane snaps as I work on getting better at understanding the process. :o)

RAW converted to .tiff with RawShooter Essentials (minor color temperature and sharpness edits), then opened with PS 6. Converted to b/w with Power Retouche (perceptual luminance), also used the Power Retouche contrast filter as well. Added a layer of noise (3.5 pixels, 50% opacity). Added a black vignette with Harry's PS Actions. Cropped slightly, resized, USM.

I have said this so many times before but let me do it again... if you can capture the feeling then you have done a great job. This is a great job emphasized by the B&W, a great choice to enhance this pic and make it the masterpiece it is.

Great shot....the focus on his eyes is just perfect!! Think this is one of my favs of Clay, it's the composition of the shot, his pose, but mostly that gorgeous expression.

Hmmm - he has that "Am I in trouble?" look. Very cute and very well done - shooting and post-proc as well.

This is awesome. The face seems just the tiniest bit soft to me, but the tones and expression here are great. Really looks a typical boy! Those cleaned-up "smile for the camera" studio shots have their place, but this is the kind of kid portrait I like best! Well done.
