Taken against a sky poster - The butterfly is "faux" from a local craft store. My husband suspended it with a string above my son's nose. After the challenge, I'll edit out the shadow of the string on my son's forehead. I think it's cute, but we'll see how it does. I'm a little worried it may be cropped to tight at the top.

Hi Tara. At first I thought this was a picture of a butterfly in the background behind your son until I had a closer look. Then I noticed it was suspended with a string as you described. However, I thought the shadow of the string on his nose was part of the shadow of the butterfly's wing.

This was a clever and original idea, and the colors you have depicted contrast nicely with each other. You can never go wrong using yellow against blue. The composition is good, except as you say a little too tightly cropped at the top. But I guess you had to do this to hide the string right?

The whole image has a soft feeling to it. The outlines of your son's face and the butterfly have a kind of smudged effect to them, which is a little disturbing to the eye. But other than that a good pic Tara!

Great moment, if then there was one (the butterfly unlike the face looks flat as if cut and pasted). The face looks enlarged, lacking an outline. The imperfections of the skin on the child's face are emphasized.

Very interesting shot. The soft focus on the edges of the child's face and butterfly is strange, though. Hmmm

Nice image. It is very clear and focused well. How did you get the butterfly to stay??

This is a cool idea and works well for the color challenge. I am not going to accuse you of doing spot editing but I must say this photo has the appearance of being spot edited. I am not sure how you got that blue background and got the butterfly in that position but I have to give you credit. I don’t think I could do anything like this without spot editing. I don’t really care for the feathering around the chin and around the edge of the face though and I wish the background was a little more natural looking. I also wish the eye was in a little better focus and that the white balance was a little closer to natural. The left half of the picture appears to have a bit of a red cast to it where the rest of the picture does not. Overall I gave this picture a 4.

I'd like to know how this was done. Surely you only got one chance at this. To get the butterfly profile so perfect, and the wonderful child-like facial expression is an amazing coincidence.
