Challenge: Late Night (Basic Editing III)
Camera: Nikon Coolpix 4500
Location: Tel Aviv, Israel
Date: May 3, 2005
Aperture: 7.1
ISO: 200
Shutter: 4 sec
Galleries: Cityscape, Architecture
Date Uploaded: May 3, 2005

A last minute entry, the Azriely buildings in Tel Aviv. There were suppose to be three of them: the circle, the square and the triangle. But only two were actually built. The neighbors resisted having the third building in their view...

The cam was hand held but the focus is not as bad as I expected for a 4 seconds exposure, is it?

PP is rotate, neatImage, contrast, USM, a tiny bit of curves adjustment and border.

after challenge addition:

Thanks for all who voted and commented!

Yes, I know the tree on the left is a distraction, but there was no way I could get rid of it, have the entire building in my frame and not risk my life in being literally drove over.

AS for the light on the bottom corner - I left it on purpose. I like it. It adds the comlpenertary color of yellow to the blues. A matter of taste I suppose.

Wow, this is awsome, although I agree, without the light on the left it would have a greater effect, still... very nice

I can't believe this is handheld for 4 seconds! The light and shadow on the round building is very interesting geometrically. I like the bright spot of light in lower left, it kind of echos what I think is a palm tree, which is a little highlight of its location in the world

sweet shot, adi! congrats on your best score, year-to-date!

now...go back and reshoot it at iso100 at the highest f-stop your camera will allow for the longest correct exposure your camera will allow. if you don't have a tripod, take/find something to rest the camera on (and if you don't have a tripod, get a small bag and fill it with beans or rice). once you're set up, put the camera in timer mode so you won't get any camera shake from pressing the shutter. lastly, if your camera supports it, shoot it raw. try these things, and you will be absolutely amazed at how those lines come in razor sharp.

as for everything else, the composition, lighting, and framing are wonderful. i wouldn't change a thing. good work!

well exposed shot, however the light to the left is a little distracting

Awesome clarity and composition! Would have given it a 10 if it were not from the flare in the lower left corner and the shadow right above it wich I presume is a tree. Good job, gave it a 9.

This shot is crisp. The only exception is the darn palm tree in the front which is quite blurred. I am bumping this to a 7. Good luck!

Great composition. I like the glow in the upper left, and Ilike the sharp focus.

the light in the lower left distracts a bit, other than that, it's a great pic.

wow wow WOW, amazing buildings. if only that tree wasnt hanging in the way of it, even though it's not that much of a distraction. the various lights on in the building almost make the whole thing look like a ton of television screens. great photo

I like it its simples shapes with lots of complex lines and details. My favorite part of this shot would have to be the lights. I realy enjoy the way the lights disect the building into a variaty of different shapes. I see a few things I dont care for inthis shot however. I don't think I like the light on the bottm left. It keeps pulling my attention away from the building. In the bottom quarter of the square building there is a dark line that looks like a tear in the building. I also would like to have seen the light that is starting to show in the sky a little brighter. But those are relitivly small flaws and some of them are just personal taste. Overall this is a great image "8"

The tree and light on the left are a bit of a distraction, although they are what give the impression of 'night'.

Nice. Focus is a bit soft, probably from resizing. USM?

Tree or shadow at 9:00 takes from this otherwise very nice shot.

Interesting buildings - found the branches and light on left a bit distracting and it seems not as sharp as it should be.

Very interesting contrast in the shapes, even though they basically match! Can't decide if I like the light in the lower left or not.

I really like this shot. I think it would have been better to crop out the light in the bottom left, though - it distracts from the cool blue tones of everything else. Great shot!

Great shot and title! The only thing I'm not too fond of is the light in the low left corner. Apart from that, the image is rather appealing, with very good definition/quality and well balanced.
