Challenge: Minimalism (Basic Editing III)
Camera: Canon EOS-20D
Location: at home
Date: Apr 23, 2005
Aperture: f11
ISO: 100
Shutter: 1/25
Galleries: Still Life, Black and White

Playing around with some old keys on a piece of slate. The lighting was accidental, the sun coming out just as I was taking the shot; I liked the angle of the shadows. The subject was pretty colourless, so I converted to B&W, adjusted contrast, levels.

Old keys, nice shadows. This picture has an "old" quality about it. I like it. ~7

Fits the challenge I guess but it didn't really catch my interest, maybe it's just me I like to look at lively stuff...

Wow, I really like this idea. There's a story behind it...

Wouldn't it be cool if the shadow of a man or women's hand was reaching for the keys?

Very nicely done! Love the diagonal lines puling you from one corner to another with a stop at the keys! Kinda framing the keys within the frame. Even the hars shadows under the keys works well.

I think this would look even better if it had a shadow that looked like prison bars over the keys.

interesting comp and lighting, points are lost for the clutter if dust or whatever in the dark areas. 3

Nice use of light and shadow. Not sure about the B&W. I think upping the contrast might have made this pop a little better. Otherwise, I like it and I hope others really look at it so they can really appreciate your use of light, etc. Good Luck.

Great choice of lighting. I feel like I'm in a prison trying to figure out a way to get the keys

I like the natural feel of the lighting, but would've prefered the placement of the keys to be closer/at bottom of photo 7

You've managed to incorporate a fairly mundane object into a fascinating study of light and shadows. Like the tonal range and the detailed sharpness without artifactual distractions.

Very elegant, minimalist, on a background with an interesting texture. I'm not all that far into scoring yet, but it's the best I've seen so far. The level of brightness is exactly correct, and the older style of the keys makes the subject interesting.
