and they say humans are the ones that are free - i see an animal that is happy, simple, and pays no taxes.

Hi, from the Critique Club!
Just my darn luck to have gotten this image to "critique" when I push that button. This, I reckon, is an intimidating image to even attempt a critique at, for me and probably for many other members of DPC. But I'll give it a try, keeping in mind that you're infinitely much more accomplished as a photographer/post-processor.

I like the image. In terms of challenge theme, I agree that this is quite minimalist and works at that level. The post-shot treatment works well for the context of the challenge, but I do think this would be a strong image as well without the desat and channel mixing (I'm still learning PS, and from my limited experience and knowledge, I think this is one possible technique for getting the white out, correct me if I'm wrong).
I like how the background isn't evenly blanked, and that a hint of details is left to show. Such a background strengthens the nicely picked and imaginative title.
The texture on the mother wallaby nicely sets off the main element from the rest of the image, and in a setting where bokeh isn't so visible due to the color tone choices, this texturing serves well as a magnet for the viewers' eyes.
The composition works well vertically, but I'd be curious to see how a landscape crop might affect this composition. "Wide World" brings to mind such a composition, and maybe the image would be stronger with a wider or longer viewing space for the wallabies.
The sticks and a band of darker tones near the top of the image present distraction points for me, but of course with basic editing there wasn't much that could be done for them.
I agree with some previous commenters that this would make a great print, and I hope to see some edits on this in the future. Thanks, and I hope this commentary doesn't prove to be too unworthy. :)

Sheesh Jon - you keep coming up with the goods - I've seen a lot of wallaby photos (being an aussie and all) but not many as good as this one.

Awwwww. . . . I'm sorry my favorite picture didn't win a ribbon like I thought it deserved. It's still my favorite picture tho, and 6.2 is a good strong score! Congratulations on this amazing photo.

What JPR said. I always end up liking your pictures without even knowing they are yours. I guess that's when you add someone to your favorites :).
Excellent photograph, and I really like the processing for the clean white look. To me it seems like the processing has made the picture effective as a minimalism picture, since it really makes the subject stand out and the background blend into one large space. Excellent work again!!

This is just beautiful. It's so incredibly refreshing when a picture like this pops up - I think the 10's are the photos you know immediately are worth it. 10

Nice capture and composition. Eye stays focused on the animals. Wish we had some of those here instead of squirrels and bunnies! 8

I've decided to bump this image to a 10. I have looked at it on different monitors and at different angles and while some are less pleasing than others I 'think' I know what you were seeing. This is one image that really needs to be seen printed. I think the black and white treatment works amazingly well for this capture and hope you don't see a lot of 'wish it was in color' comments. those people don't know what they are missing! You also may be judged harshly due to the size of your subject. I think this image is beyond that. With the tones you used you opened up so much space that the image encompasses space not seen. Let me know if you decide to make this a print. I will be the first in line. Thanks for posting this.

I like image alot, I like the softness of it. The twig in front is quite distracting, I found myself looking at it whilst commenting. Still think it's a great shot...8

this shot is very bright! I think a little work with the contrast/brightness might bring some of the details into focus more. I really like the subject! :-)

And of course any expertly done picture of animals immediately steals my heart. Congratulations on just an AWESOME picture!!! 10 (of course)
