Not a bad capture, but I am not at all liking the choice of selective desat. Maybe desat all but skin color or just the flip-flops (especially if they were both wearing them). Best of luck.
Not really sure the selective desaturation works well in this shot.
B&W is always a good choice in my opinion, but the red is a clash in this shot as the objects in red were not really the main focal point the way eyes would be for instance.
I'm not crazy about this use of partial desat. To make that technique effective, it needs to highlight an essential element or something that really adds to the image. It might work if it were just the flip flops, but the writing on their shirts is overkill.
As far as I can tell, this is a "because I can" use of selective desaturation. I would have preferred to see this shot with a shallower DOF and a bit of motion blur.
This is a good example of what I'd call "gratuitious use of selective desaturation." Why would you choose to emphasize those particular elements of the shot? It just doesn't make sense to me, in all honesty.
There are places where selective desaturation works, and places where it doesn't. The picture would do a lot better if the girls were not desaturated. 5
While selective desat is fun to play with, it's also pretty unnecessary and detracts from this photo. I feel like this youthful activity needs all it's color.
