Trying out the new flash, MUCH better than trying to use the built-in speedlight. Set up the backdrop with my daughter on a pillow and she put her head down for a moment (it's quite heavy, you know).

Didn't even realize this challenge was going until after the session. Couldn't help but submit.

This is soooo sweet!! I really like the way you set her up and those little piggy tails are adorable! If this were mine I might do a little cloning and healing to the back drop just to get rid of some of the waves in the fabric. Then I think it would be just about perfect!

Very sweet. I love the "twiggy" pigtail! Very nice use of light and contrast.

Critique Club Comment:

Hi there,

Congratulations first, your first 6+ score, that’s always a good feeling.
This was by the way, one of my picks for this Challenge, and I voted you (and I am not lying) a 10.

I think I can not add much to the comments you already got.
She’s really lovely, and she has beautiful eyes, so I too would have cropped it tighter to bring out those features in her face.
The folds in the backdrop are a bit distracting and could have been avoided by using a smaller dof.
There’s not much to add, as I said before, so I can only say that I look forward to new pictures that you come up with.

Keep up the good work.

Peter

This is gorgeous - wow. The softness is exquisite, while the clarity of the child is flawless; no oversharpening or overprocessing here. The tones are absolutely gorgeous, and the composition is excellent. This is beautiful work.

Nice tone and mood here.
Having her eyes looking away instead of the camera added so much to this.
Well Done. (7)

Cute. The backdrop is bit distracting. Comes off better in B/W than color probably would - good choice there.

Just a little more DOF and you would have had the perfect background

Lovely shot technically, but you're too far away. The background is not very helpful so you may as well go full frame. She's got lovely eyes and it's a shame not to see them more clearly.

The uneven backdrop takes my attention away from the main subject - this beaurifully peaceful baby. I think that the unevenness caused the dark shades I'm talking about being distracting. Otherwise, beautiful capture and nice b&w tonal range.

Very nicely done, the little pigtails are adorable!! One little suggestion: the right end of the sheet has a distracting downward curve, just cropping that little part out from the right so there is a straight upslope of the sheet to the end will make it even better. 8.

Very cute! Contrast seems a bit low in places, and bringing the subject and what she's on away from the background would have helped to throw the background out of focus. It's a little distracting as is.

I would have gone for a tighter crop to bring out the eyes
