Challenge: Tacks! (Advanced Editing IV)
Camera: Nikon D70
Location: Dorm room
Date: Apr 15, 2005
Aperture: F5.6
ISO: 200
Shutter: 1/30th
Galleries: Black and White, Studio
Date Uploaded: Apr 15, 2005

This was taken with 2 desk lamps on a white piece of paper. One light was shining from above and left (the key light) and then I had kind of a back fill kicker to bring the tacks out of the background.

To rig the tacks the way they are I used magicians thread which is ultra thin thread thats nearly invisible to the natural eye.

Post: USM, brightness/Contrast, small cloning, burning, dodging, and crop.

Great composition. I love how the shadows add to the composition of the photo. Are they glued? Bumping up

Aswesome shot. Well lit, and just the way you got the two horizontal tacks there...damn, very nice.

This will be one to see how it was done.
Well done by the way - simple, well converted (and a good choice for B&W too) and defies logic, which holds my eyes to it.

This is great, very appealing. The focus/dof is absolutely perfect. If there was no over lap on the points of the tacks, you'd have a perfect shot.

Very nice, the worst thing I can think of to say is the shadow is off a tad. Pretty bad, huh? (LOL) You get a silver star.

While this is a very good photo i feel a different angle or crop could have made this even better.

Where's the angel? Too bad there are no tacks in this image. ;) Excellent job. I want to know how you did it. I think the tone and composition are excellent. Not everything has to abide by the rule of thirds! DOV and POV excellent. 10 because this is a great image to create in 24 hours.

The only other 10 I give out in this challenge. Love everything except the title wich is "tacky" (pun intended). I especially love the tones in this image and the shadows from the tacks in the air, the shadows really make this image work. Good job!

There's a wonderful purity to this, but I wish it were truly squared up; that seems to me vital to the concept. Strong "minimalist" entry.
