The border's a bit much, but the photo is just fantastic. It summons feelings and images about this game and goes well beyond just showing a pon and a king. Probably my favorite chess shot on the entire site. Thanks for doing it right! I've enjoyed looking. 10

I like how you have only got the one piece in focus (altho it still looks slightly out of focus). The way it is seen through another two pieces is very effective as well. 7

excellent use of depth of field to isolate your subject... great lighting as well :) - setzler

The blurred foreground really makes the center o the picture "pop." Very well done.

a tighter crop and a solid background would pull it up a bit

Some may be turned off by the blur around your two center pieces, I find it interesting. So much so that this shot is in my top 10. Good work.

Really nice the way you've presented this photograph. I think it's one that perhaps you would benefit from showing us how you did it. Excellent color on the front chess pieces, the yellow, speckled green, white/beige.

Nice job. The blur effects are really nice and add much to this.

I love the DOF on this picture... great lighting and perfect focus on the pawn. Very nice shot!

I really like how you have achieved the blured vision around your main subject. Excellent lighting, composition, framing and choice of subject. Very well done. GL in this weeks challenge.

Super idea and name! I really like the use of DOF. (My personal border preference would have been a tad thinner).

this is way cool. i like macro shots like this where you're 'down in the action', part of the story if you will. you've conveyed the feeling well of being surrounded and intimidated by tall powerful enemies, using selective dof and foreground blur. the pawn and king have an old man and little child type feel. top notch.

Nice ..........nice composition, light and focus too.

Nice use of DOF.
