this is one of the most bizarre things i have ever witnessed. these people were enjoying an aural exhibit in the turbine hall of the tate modern museum on london's southbank. the black boxes on the sides are speakers which create a band of sound that goes across the chamber; as you walk from one band to another, what you hear changes. once you get to the floor level and listen, it starts to make sense, but, just walking in and looking down, it's almost like stepping into the twilight zone...

post: selected and multiplied the floor to bring out the lines a bit. other than that, slight rotation/crop, then normal adjustments for b/c, h/s, and curves, sized, and saved for web.

--- post challenge notes ------------

thanks for all the comments! i had a number of alternates, as well as a couple i didn't submit because i thought they would be going head to head with other entries...

possible 2nd place?

possible 14th place?

anyways, this image is one of my all-time faves, simply because of how quirky it is.

as for the title, i was hoping to convey the idea of the person in the box directing the people below. i didn't want it to be too long, but i guess it didn't really get the point across. maybe it needed some more punctuation...

i probably should have titled this connect the dots

This is one of my favorites in my favorites! I love the muted colors and the two persons seemingly so lost inside the gigantic building. It has such a sureal feel to it with the people 'waiting' for the commands. The title is perfect!

I love this photo! The yellow at the end with the concrete floor and green block up top. The people make this photo look like a miniature model and that's what I like about it.

I didn't vote in this challenge but this photo caught my eye when I was browsing through the entries during the voting period. I think it's really cool. Great job.

would fit well into the surreal category as well as lines. Great eye for composition, like the punch of color combined with gray tones. -- Bumping up to one of my ribbon picks

I was just about to PM you and say I hadn't seen your shot yet. You even got the tonality right, I think. (This had better be you, Skip - but it makes sense). You know what - with my own prints beside me to compare - I really can't decide between the portrait or landscape approach to the subject. This way, the blue0ish room protruding into the space is more effective. landscape way, he space is guven a greater sense of size. You were either lucky or very patient with thse two punters, too. Nice work.

I'm afraid I don't get the concept or the title, but I do like it.

In this challenge I commented on another picture that it was a nice modern urban feeling shot, but that it lacked interest. This shot falls into the same category as urban and modern, but whatever was missing from the other shot, this one has. I thing it's great! Colours are wonderful, excellent lighting and the people add appeal. I wouldn't change a thing about it.
