Interpret this however you like, but I thought it defined this moment in history quite well, when everyone is debating our involvement in Iraq. These guys are pilots who flew in WWII and
were discussing the horrors of war from personal experience. I was eavesdropping and thought black and white would really capture the moment. The Apache Ah-64's in the background were passing through, presumably on their way to being shipped out.

Greetings from the Critique Club :)

Hi Fotofly...

Congrats on an excellent black and white image. I think, based on your description, that you captured a great moment in time with this photo. This photo does 'speak' on its own about the current 'times' in our world. The exposure on this photo is quite good considering the circumstances you were working with. The silhouetted men in the window are perfect, yet the detail of the objects on the table in front of them are still visible, and the helicopters outside the window are not blown out.

One of the aspects of this image that I really like is the simple candid nature of it. It's so difficult to bring the human element into a photograph (for me anyway) and not have it look posed or rehearsed or simply cheesy. You have captured this very well...

This photo also seems to carry a lot of weight as a photojournalistic piece. I hope you sent this in to your local newspaper to see if they would publish it :)

Kudos on a fine photo...

John Setzler

Congrats on top 40, but I really wish this would have placed higher in the ranks. A favorite non the less.

This photograph makes a great statement. B&W conveys the mood beautifully, as does the mid-sip capture. Good job!

the contrast of themes in this photo are striking. first the people are sipping thier coffee.. seemingly casually. But.. outside the window there is so much activity.. and adrenaline.. expectation.. emotion. Does everyone sit idly by like this while the whir of time and the world passes by?
Congratulations for making such an emotional image.. not because of the current events, but because it speaks volumes. I hope it has not been lost on others...
BTW... amazing exposure.. as you didn't completely wash out the outside as it was brighter than the inside of the room. I'd love to see your settings.
This is a favorite this week, and I don't have them every week.

Don't really see the time relevance here, but a decent photojournalism shot. It's tilted, though

Excellent, disturbing photo. Love the juxtaposition here. Technically, could have been better - is the near foreground really necessary? And it doesn't feel straight (horizontal). You could have sold this to the press. Or maybe you did, who knows?

Excellent photograph, great concept! I just looked at this and thought wow!!!!!!
I was floored really. Its great to see someone use an actual concept and follow through with it with a realistic portrayal. Anyways.... BRAVO!!!!!!!!
10. I want to see more of your stuff.

Good use of contrasts; B/W tone is perfect for this shot.

Tough shot with the sillhouettes and bright window. Evening out the window tones would put the coffee drinkers in more darkness, but the shot may show more balance overall. Relevant for the challenge and for our time. I love this idea and the action you've captured in both the foreground and background.

You can get so many meanings from the title. Very interesting!

Too dark for me - or too light. I would rather they were either visible or silhouettes.

The double meaning of the title is clever and adds a very sombre mood to the image. The capture of the helicopters in the background is impressive, and the silhouette of the foreground, which gives just enough detail to see the 'maturity' of the subjects, really punctuates the impact. An original interpretation of the challenge, I like it.
