Oh dear! This was one of the first photos I ever submitted to DPC, as well as one of the first photos I ever took with a "real" camera. At the time I thought I was being so clever (which the idea kind of was), but my technique was to try to sit still for 839 seconds while turning the TV on and off with a remote (on for two, off for four minutes) to illuminate the clock. Obviously I can't sit perfectly still for that long, plus since I didn't cover the lens b/w lighting up the clock I got excessive amounts of noise even though the room was very dark. Also, since I knew nothing about ISO I was using an ISO of 400.

To make matters worse, at the time I had no real photo editing software and had never heard of neatimage. I did go back after I got PS and try to make the image a bit better, although I can only work with what I've got.

Wow, I admit that looking back at this photo DOES show me how much I've learned in a couple of years.

One of my first ever photos! Please don't judge me too harshly... I've gotten better, I swear! :)

Nice composition. I think the noise would compliment the photo more if you converted this to black and white.

Is it possible to list all the bad things about this photo? The graininess, the out of focus, the camera motion, the unpleasant color palette, and so on. Yet every one of these flaws seems to enhance the photo. Why is this? It's a strong concept, and a strong composition. And the flaws draw us instantly into the uncomfortable world of insomnia.

Your idea is great, but the noise is just a killer.

I like the capture of the clock, although, to me, it doesn't look as though the subject is really looking at it.

Nice idea, but there's a little much empty space in the frame. However, the big issue I had with this photo was the amount of noise.
