Seagulls along the edge of Towne Lake in McKinney TX. I was experimenting with DOF in order to emphasize the "separation" aspect of this one gull being separated from the others on the bank. I think it's fairly effective. I hope the voters think so too! ;o)

Shot with my rebel using the Canon 75-300 f4-5.6 IS USM lens, Cropped, first converted to b/w then to Platinum using the PowerRetouche Silver filter, contrast adjustments, dodging/burning, PowerRetouche's sharpening filter, resized for web.

I couldn't agree less with this comment. The front bird that is out of focus is what defines this picture. I think it is a brilliant capture. well thought out. If I was around when this hit the challenge I would have given it a 10.

the focus seems to be on the bird to the left, i would have cropped out the other lone bird to further the idea of separation. nice capture though!
