Hopefully enough people know that the wooden structure that holds up the strings on a violin is called a bridge, if not, oh well.

The bluish backlight is a large window, the warm source from the right is a work lamp.

The background is a leather jacket. I tried to get some dust clouds using the bow with some rosin, but it didn't work out, so this was the best.

I had the camera really close, and so the focal point is behind the bridge. I thought f11 would pick it up, but it's still a little soft. Oh well, that's what I get for not bracketing just to make sure.

uneven lighting - lost that look of richness when the left only shows light reflected. Also, the blurred tailpiece prevents the eye from smoothly crossing the bridge back toward the lush darkness of the fabric.

NIce idea. Unfortunate that the focus is on the fingerboard instead of the bridge. You might try cropping everything above where the violin stops, it doesn't really add anything to the picture. It's a cool texture, but not really what we want to focus on.

I would prefer to see the focus being on the bridge, rather than the neck.

Good idea, composition, and colour palette. Neck appears to be more in focus than the bridge though.

The bridge itself is too blurry, otherwise this is a fine image.

Out of all the violin/guitar bridge shots in this contest, this is the best. Beautiful shot. 9

Nice background, but focus would have been better on the bridge itself rather than just behind it.

Here is another good idea!! Unfortunately your focus appears to be beyond the bridge. On the other hand you're lighting is nearly fantastic for this photo, and on a shiny instrument like this you should be congradulated.

I think the focus is off. It's not really on the bridge. Nice shot, though. Like the dark colors. Reflections aren't harsh. Like the perspective & rotation, negative space.

Lovely idea and picture. Could have been a winner with the focus shallower and sharper on the bridge itself - hope you do well with it

Seems like the focus is more on the fingerboard than the bridge.

I'm glad you shot this....most people probably don't know what a "bridge" on stringed instruments is. A little out of focus it seems, tho

would be nice to see the bridge focused

If this competition were not about bridges, I think I'd vote to have the focus be closer to the bridge than the bottom of the fingerboard (if that's what it's called.) But if the photo really was not taken for this competition, it is doubly hard to undersand the point at which it focusses (unless it is a physical limitation of the equipment.) The composition and lighting are very strong - I like the warm and cool lighting. The top 20% iof the photo adds nothing.

This is a nice shot and a nice taake on bridges out of the ordinary. One one thought is that the bridge itself should have been completely in focus.

Nice. I think I would get down closer to the surfact of the violin and fill the frame with the bridge. Make it less recognizabl to increase the impact.

the glare off the body is a bit distracting, would have liked to have seen more of the wood grain
