Challenge: Bridges II (Basic Editing III)
Collection: challenge shots
Camera: Olympus C-4000Z
Location: my home

Aperture: f2.8
ISO: 100
Shutter: 1/60's

Would have loved to spot edit this shot, he hates to have his pic made so asking for another would have been out of the question, the obvious shadow and to soften some obvious facial flaws would have been wonderful. But I am hoping it can stand its ground like this. We will see. Basic editing applied, plus despeckle was applied to entire image.

No facial flaws to change here. THis is a wonderfull portrait. Since he dont like pics being taken you have a nice winner here. Frame it and cherish for ever memories:)

Without the title, I don't think I'd understand this picture. Photographically good, although I believe I would have cropped in closer in to eliminate most of the open space on the left.

I would say "binds" rather that "bridges". A progression, a passage, a uniting - but not a transition from one dimension to another.

Needs a better picture of a father.
I dont want him to be mine.
May be it's the lights in the picture???

Update in 21.02.2005:
In MY opinion, the picture needs better lighting to make the man look more appealing to the viewer, not just to the photographer.
The shadow in the background does not look very good in to MY eye. Colors could be adjusted.
The composition is very good.
The picture has a lot of potential as it is and the idea is superb and very distinctive.

There are a lot of very good pictures in this challenge. This could certainly have been one of them.

Bad lighting, doesn't tell any story.

I feel that the shadow alongside the profile is off-putting.

I like the idea here, but without the title... Nothing here shows that this is a father, or his devotion to anything. That said, this is a terrific image. Sharp focus, good lighting, good skin tones, nice composition, interesting face. I might try a little Neat Image to make the pores on his face a bit less obvious.

OK, if it wasnt for the title, this rather average picture would have nothing whatsoever to do with bridges. Dont get me wrong, I admire it when ppl think outisde of the envelope. but outside of the cosmos is taking things a bit too far...sorry

I really like the concept, but other than the title there is nothing to actually "bridge" the title with the picture. It's a nice picture, but I would have liked to have seen a child for the father to show his devotion on.

I get the idea here. However, it seems to me that your idea is mainly conveyed via the title, not the pciture itself. Good attempt nonetheless (5)

This is really a stretch. I really don't think you are meeting the challenge. Nothing in this photo says anything to me about this person being a father or having devotion. It's a photo of an older gentleman. That's it. 2

Very strong portrait, but a bit tenuous for the challenge. The title should not be needed to explain a picture, just to enhance it. Think you'll get hurt for that in this challenge, but don't let the score detract from this great picture.

The capture is great. The shadow on the wall is not.

Nice portrait. This would have done better IMO if you had family members behind him out of focus and in Black and white.
As it stands now.
His character stands out nice however it needs more drama.
