Critique Club- Your eyes are the most striking element in this photo. They are well captured and seem to stare right at me. Your use of shadows really keep the attention on your eyes. From my understanding of portrait photography, having the eyes on the top thirds line is recommended, so I think cropping just enough off the top so the eyes are in the thirds position might have made this a stronger entry. I think I would also crop enough off the left hand side to center your face a little more.

Overall, I thought this was an excellent portrait.

Striking eyes, beautiful colors and beautiful light around your hair. I like the shadows on the face as well. WIth the top part so dark the photo almost looks cropped, maybe a touch of light up there would be nice, but this is a very nice self portrait.

wow, great lighting.. the band across the eyes is really nice. If the lighting was smoother and more even around the neck, 10 for sure.. 9 from me.

the straight shadow across the forehead is a bit too much , I very much like the soft shadow across the face and the overall mood and colors

Ah yes,Dark, light, dark, light. Like a soothing wave passing over the attractive feautures with the eyes carrying the heavy expressive projection. The mouth and lips are very well expressed with higlights that play on the tip of the nose and then makes the lips glisten. The values are very well represented in their respective zones and the entire image including twirling hair, frock, hat and background all help create a keen and colorful character study. Bumping up.

i don't know anything about portraiture, so i'm using your image as a guinnea pig as to what i think i would or wouldn't do in this situation, as well as what i notice and get out of your image.

my initial reaction is "what happened to this wonderful image?" i guess you're wearing a black hat? i don't know why. the lighting is great, the tones are warm, you've really captured your eyes...could you have done this without the hat? all of that undefined black space at the top just sits so heavy on what could be a killer image. right now, when i crop the top 30-35% and the left 20% off, i see an amazing portrait. but then again, what the hell do i know? i shoot bugs and sunsets and blurry taxis. good luck!

great lighting. I would prefer a slightly tighter crop given all that negative space at the top of the frame.

Cute...I would have liked it even more if the light on your eyes and the dark below was even more contrasted. I like it!

Your portrait really appeals to me. The title is well suited, but you are a very pretty woman. Your eyes are well captured showing depth of character and you show off your smooth complexion. Very nice job. 9

I like the catchlights.

I like the way you have the light set up. I would believe that that is a hat on your head even though you can not see it I immediately get that impression.

Perfect title; it's a simple image, but the simplicity is deceptive because this is a thoughtfully conceived and beautifully crafted portrait. Great lighting & nice execution all round, but the best thing of all is that you made all this seem quite effortless. Mark of genuine artistic merit, in my view. 9.
