Challenge: Self-Portrait III (Advanced Editing IV)
Camera: Canon EOS-D60
Location: Austin, Tx
Date: Feb 9, 2005
Aperture: f 4.5
ISO: 100
Shutter: 1/6s
Galleries: Cityscape, Portraiture
Date Uploaded: Feb 10, 2005

Long lens, shallow DoF, to get the background, from a tree with lights on it. Shot on a street in Austin, flash bounced off a near-by wall for some fill. Not much editing (honest!) lightened, removed a few blemishes and stray hair.

Your photos always make you look younger than you write : )

Great lighting for a night shot, I like the BG too.

Oh, one of my favourite faces of DPC. This is a really good photo of you. Lovet the background. Your face looks so peaceful.

The face looks familiar, but I just can't place it. ;-) Good job on the lighting, and a nice use of the recent challenge technique.

Is your dad John Edward (of 'Crossing Over' fame, do a google search, you'll see what I mean). Rather festive lighting in the background (some may think it distracting), photo well exposed and composed. Good job!

This would look so much better with a wider 1.3x crop. :)
You deserve that 1D Mk2, go get it! ;)

Nice bokeh, but the flat lighting... falls flat.

what a self promotional title!!! lol .. I lovethe blurred lights in the background.. very nice!!!!!!.. but the light on your face looks too much like a flash.. it gives the face part of the photo a snap-shotish look...

dare i say...nice bokeh! excellent work, gordon. the lighting is tops. you really have captured the full range of your face. honestly, i don't know enough about portraiture to really critique this, so i'm just going through, looking to see what seems to work and what doesn't. this pretty much seems to hit all the way around. good luck! 8 from me.

hey Gordo, you could not think of a better tittle lmao. Your back ground is quiet busy, what is it a x-mas tree lights??? I'm just teasing you. I know you are good and know plenty, so take it easy on us old farts. Now for your score....hmmm what you like??

I had fun with this... :-Þ-~~~~

That is some of the coolest bokeh I have ever seen. The sad part is that the coolness of the background makes it seem like you have just pasted yourself on a background - looks really unnatural. 6.

Interesting background bokeh. I have seen the other self-portraits that you have done and I like this one the least. (sorry!) I really liked the perspective shots of you with the camera on the end of the tripod (although the shot I saw was from your friends camera)

Your background is all out of focus, you should have centred your model and a better looking model would have helped! ;)
Seriously now. Really nice Bokeh effect, I like the catch lights in your eyes and great clarity particularly in the eyes where it really counts for a portrait. IMHO The red strip is a little distracting and the back of the neck where the collar sticks out a fraction. Very nice photo!
