had this thought for awhile i love the lyrics of paul simon he has a way with words in song that is like no other.

the image is that of thought from 2years back when i was a big anti-social (i still am to some degree). i was going to an all boys school and was an outcast.

i used to sit at home and listen to "I Am A Rock" alot when it struck me the reality of the song was that 1 can't hind themselfs from the world and as much as u think u need nothing or no 1 it is to the opisite of those thoughs u are really dwelling on.
too think otherwise is to u lie to yourself.

anyway it a must hear if u have ever felt left out......

but to the shot it is a timer of me once again, same black backround as in "the light burrden".

diffrent lighting technique very dark, the light was aimed at a dark cloth so as to provide minumal reflection and too keep things dark (indirect light).

put the camera on a timer, crossed my legs put elbow on knee an hands on forehead.

so as to hide the face and make things darker in nature....

i want to appeal to the Darkness and Hurt of emotional pain not just the emotion pain or a thumb being hit with a hammer.....
nothing aginst any1 who submitts a pic. of a thumb being hit by a hammer (with my luck u will win and i will look like an over contemplative moron) but that is what i saw this challenge as....

thanx for all the comments and votes....

note to all who submitt a hammer and thumb shot i wrote this before the challenge started...

AFTER THE CHALLENGE: Gave you a 5, on second look I wish I could bump it up to a 7. The pose and message are excellent, but I do think you could improve the lighting and focus just a bit. Don't take offense, just an honest opinion. Keep on shootin'.

I liked this one, gave it a 7. I think you did a good job of conveying pain... the negative space really works for it by giving it a sense of isolation. As others said, though, it is a tad dark. Just a bit of curves adjustment would really give this photo some oomph.

wow, I think that you did an excellent job with the negative space, b&w, and soft focus. The title/quote is most appropriate. Great work.

Even for a low-key photo, it appears very dark. It lacks detail.

too dark, and i don't think you need all the black space

Image needs some white. This is 90% black and 10% dark gray. Lacking midtones and highlights.

I see where you were going with this, but without the title you don't know where this is going.

I like this a lot. But, it's just a little too dark.

one of the top shots. i find the emotional pain shots more interesting. however, not many of them show pain as well as yours. the negative space really brings out the sence of emptiness well.

Interesting idea that could have worked, unfortunately the lighting in this picture is not ideal and it seems to me to be a bit out of focus, although this may be intentional. (5)

so dark it is hard to see whats going on. I see the idea, but lighting could be stronger.

Dude, you were right, it looks way too dark on PC screens.

Not bad, but the message is conveyed more by the title than the pic. More contrast or more face/expression on the model.

Some people may say this photo is too dark, but on the contrary I think you nailed it perfectly. I like the remnance of the subject the way it is. Nice job, good luck.

I love the thought, but I can barely make the subject out, maybe a bit brighter.
