A Comment From The Critique Club

Hi Brian!

First of all, congratulations on your ribbon, it is well deserved, you submitted a spectaculare photo to the challenge. It'll be a pleasure to write a review, but I'm not sure how much I can suggest for improvements ... but I know that I'm tempted to go out and buy a ticket to San Francisco and finally see this bridge with my own eyes!

Your photo has a very dreamy/mystical feel to it because of the fog. This is enhanced by your choice of b&w and the nice use of negative space in the left of the picture. I like how the top of the bridge and the far end of the bridge simply melt into the fog, but the front is very clearly visible, and you can see all those 'little' cars.

Your photo is nice and crisp where the bridge isn't obscured by the fog, and you achieved a nice tonal range. The frame very nicely complements the picture.

The photo obviously meets the challenge. I hope it has a place on your wall somewhere because it deserves it. Keep up your wonderful work, I checked your portfolio and you have some incredible shots in there :)

Please let me know if you have any questions or comments about this review.

Franziska.

Like I noted before: just marvelous. Congratulations!

Congrats! You did good kiddo. I grew up in SF you know and the Golden Gate will always have a warm spot in my heart. You caught it at its most beautiful, in the fog. Good work!

This is an incredible shot. I love the angle and the way you captured that little road down below. The fog is perfect. Great use of negative space. Congrats on 3rd.

Congrats on 3rd Place! You managed to take a photo of the Golden Gate that is original.

Excellent shot. You really get a sense of the hugeness of the bridge. Great comp. Would have liked to see a little more bridge, but still in my top 3.

Now I like this version of Golden Gate bridge. Good job catching the fog and putting it into black and white. I would have like to see a little more bridge and less land to the left...but that may not have been possible.

Good composition - different from what is usually seen. I like the cable from the front span disappearing into the fog and the way the cars come out of the fog. Execution-wise, the brdige looks crooked and the border just points this out by giving a square reference.

Very nice!
03/15/2003 03:42:32 AM
Wonderful! This is an excellent photo, the fog gives this image so much charachter, especially the way the lines disappear into nothingness.

Stunning. This is my favorite of all. But perhaps too much negative space on the left? 10

I think it needs to be just a touch tighter on the left, with maybe more of the bridge showing on the right. I really like the bw -- it gives it a mysterious feeling.

The fog pictures are getting me this time. The black and white works well here. I like your composition.

Excellent photo. I love how the bridge fades into the fog. The B&W was a surefire choice, as I feel it accents the mysterious feel that the fog already creates.

It's a lovely bridge and a nice scene, but I think that the fog detracts from the shot.

Oh come on, you stole this from a magazine, didn't you? : )

Great shot. I like the effect the mist gives and also the grayscale is a good choice for this pic in my opinion.

I have taken hundreds of photos of this bridge. It is hard to catch a good shot with the weather. Bravo, you did a great job. One of my favorites...

Nice work - almost a fraction too much fog, but what an interesting shot. Great focus as well.

OK, you got my very first comment as a new user of this website because I reeeeeally like your entry.
You perfectly captured the fog, and the bridge looks like a gate to who knows where for those tiny cars... Just one criticism: I would like to see a bit more of this bridge, which would equilibrate this composition. But I like it already very much as it is. Congratulations.

This photograph definitely tells the story about San Francisco. The famous bridge and the mist. The view of the bridge covered in mist with the upper parts of the towers sticking out is unforgettable.
Good composition, detail, depth and toning.

You picked a perfect day for this picture. The fog adds a nice mellow feel to it, and makes the traffic less noticeable. Very good picture.
