Challenge: Best of 2004 (Advanced Editing III*)
Collection: Challenge Entries
Camera: Canon EOS-20D
Lens: Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS USM
Location: Lamberhurst, Kent, UK
Date: Dec 18, 2004
Aperture: f4.0
ISO: 100
Shutter: 1/30th sec
Galleries: Nature, Animals
Date Uploaded: Jan 10, 2005

A squirrel sitting on a fencepost, overlooking the fields and hedges beyond. The tame little thing came right up to the house before climbing out onto the fence, which made for a perfect photo op - shame it didn't look my way! The bokeh of this lens is just beautiful - pity I couldn't enter something like this in the Bokeh challenge!

Taken with the Canon 70-200 IS (mmm...) and the Canon 1.4x tele, through the glass of a window (which didn't distort in this shot, which was good). The original was cropped, a lot of levels adjustments, focus tweaked, and double bordered.

hey, nice bokeh :)

The border is distracting and the squirrel seems a little out of focus. I like the colors in the background though.

this would have been very good if the squirrel was in focus. Looks like you used too shallow DOF.

Love the shallow DOF. And even though the squirrel has his back to you, you can still see his eye. (a major grievance of mine is when you can't see the eyes of the person or animal) So big plus for you. Love the colors in the background too. Makes the picture very interesting. My only nit might be a wish for a tad more sharpness around the eye. Good luck in the challenge!

Hard to tell what's in sharp focus here- if his eye was sharp, I think this would have been great in the bokeh challenge!

Nice crisp shot, but could be even better if the eye were razor sharp. Love the background too. ...7...

If only the squirrel wasn't facing so much away from the camera, this would be a real winner. Still very good though.

I like the bokeh. lol The focus is on the squirrels tail and I think it should be on the head or the entire squirrel...imo.
