Thanks for everyone who voted for this image. I had only about 2 hours to put it together with materials I already had, shoot, edit, and submit it before the deadline.

I wasn't 100% happy with the DOF, but in the end, I think it all worked well enough.

Cool! (and a bit freaky). Nice focus on the eye.

Ah! Cool!

wo! what an eye. Great macro subject. nice sharpness and light

beautiful ... great detail around the eye and the red bkg blur fits very well
01/15/2005 03:40:09 PM
very wild image! this is one of the most memorable images i've seen, just because of the colors. great detail. not thrilled about how centered the eye is (and that looks like something that could be strengthened by some judicious cropping). all in all, i'll be surprised if this doesn't wind up on the front page! good luck!

Wow that eye - the background coulours add to the image fits the challenge well

The background adds so much to this sharp appealing image.
01/14/2005 04:39:44 AM
Nice one. The colours are amazing and the detail is superb. Just wondering why the background looks dissolved.

cool image GL

You have executed this one perfectly. Focus is deadcenter on the eye and the colorful out of focus backround beautifully accents the subject. One of my favorites.

Excellent shot,

Eyes are very distinctive with the veins in sharp detail and with an interesting catch light. I like how you edited this to make this reptile appear to meld into the background. 9

Nice contrast. This should go far.

Love his eyes!

to me the orange doesn't work on such a nice subject
01/11/2005 06:36:53 AM
Wow, this is a nice photograph. It's nitpicking though, but I'd wish the whole head would be in focus. Maybe a tad deeper DOF would help, but that again might ruin other things in this shot. Also, one of my more golden rules of composition is "leave the empty space where the subject goes" - so I'd have the head more to the right as he's pointing and looking in a leftwards direction.

definitely a favorite of the challenge - excellent detail surronding the eye region and wonderful bokeh.. quite wonderfully done - 10.

Nice!

Stunnin DOF. What lens is that? I would crop it just a bit though, too much space behind the head.
01/10/2005 03:29:30 AM
Great detail in the eye. I think this will win. The eyes should be a little less centered and the nose should be in better focus, but it is still a great image. Best in this chalenge.
01/10/2005 02:52:56 AM
That's one HELLof an eyeball... Very appealing picture, at least as far as subject goes. I feel like the oranges are at war with the subject though.
01/10/2005 01:24:00 AM
Pastels are wonderful and the sharpness of the eye is outstanding. Very interesting subject matter I also like the very narrow DOF and the way the body blends in seemslessly with the background. Very uniiqe photo.

OMG! This is amazing!
